16 foot ceilings, tons of exposed brick, great location, an open floor plan, *basically* right on the water and i have a big deck that gets all the afternoon sun.
sounds nice right?
it is! except for one little thing...
there is only one window, ONE window.
and that window is a mere 3 feet by 3 feet, surrounded by brick - and doesn't open.
exhibit A
but now that i shared my small window with the internet i sure hope my window doesn't start to get window envy.
the next thing i know my itty bitty window is going to be all glaring at bigger windows and picking fights.
there will be broken glass everywhere!! the pane, the pane!*
....
so you may wonder how my apartment gets additional sunlight. well my roommate's bedroom has a window to the hallway outside our apartment which then has a window to the real outdoors. so she gets filtered light from that. it actually gets pretty bright in her room.
then there's my bedroom.
my bedroom has a window - that looks into my kitchen - which strains to absorb a bit of the sunlight that shines through exhibit A. it's cool because i'm really a vampire and don't like natural light.
i'm really not complaining though, - i do like my apartment! (see the aforementioned pros) i just find it hilarious.
on a positive note. when hurricane lake erie finally blows through the cleve i only have one window to worry about boarding up. high five!
*this maybe the corniest joke i have ever told in my life and i love it.
[also, i have a guest blog up today over at who's your dachshund featuring a video of MOB's fabulous monti the wonder dog! check it out people!]

you are ridiculous.... but that's why I <3 you.
ReplyDeleteyour window is glaring at me.
so. funny.
Oh man. I can just imagine you at your little desk-slash-stationary-bike typing away in darkness. Muahaha.
ReplyDeleteLusting over those brick walls. Where I come from (SoCal), all we have is stucco.
I <3 corny jokes... and at 5:20am, this helped! So thx for that ;)
ReplyDeleteOh, lol. You got me. I love a good pun.
ReplyDeleteApartments in this town are funny - no two are the same and each has it's quirks.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I think it's a cute little window!
very punny....i laughed at that for a good 30 seconds :)
ReplyDeleteYour corniest joke made me laugh out loud. Today is going to be a good day.
ReplyDeletehow do you access your deck? from outside?
ReplyDelete"i'm looking for cheesy in my life!"
ReplyDeletethat's me channeling kate winslet.
I still kind of love your place. The walls! the walls alone.
Makes me wish I lived in the Cleve. ONLY A LITTLE.
@mon - i have a door to the left of my lonely window that gets my to my deck : ) i'm not totally trapped. ha
ReplyDeleteSounds like everything else makes up for the window...Love the brick walls!
ReplyDeleteI could never live that way. I would get clostrophobic and start hyperventilating.
ReplyDeleteDid I spell either of those words correctly?
uhm. I seriously love your apartment.
ReplyDeleteLLLLLOVE
i am coming to visit again next Spring, fyi! Lake Erie and I won't get along in the winter.. but when it's warm again.. I am soooooooooo there.
Your window makes me sad. But your joke definitely made me happy!
ReplyDeleteI have the same problem - the only window in my room goes to the hallway - so I only get fake light. I have a great few of downtown and the river - but some sunlight wouldn't kill me. I'm beginning to turn emo.
ReplyDeleteoh wow... it does sound super nice... but i don't know if i could deal with just the one window! my bedroom has FOUR - nearly more space taken up by windows than by walls. my dining room is windows on 2 sides, and my living room has a double glass door out to my balcony.
ReplyDeletei.. uh.. enjoy sunlight.
Wow, that's one sad little window. Though, don't you need a sliding glass door or something to get out to the deck? Or do you just run through the bricks?
ReplyDeleteI too love corny jokes.
ReplyDeletethat one though, was very pane-ful.
sorry...you know I had to!
You are hysterical, corny jokes and all! :-P
ReplyDeleteIf it makes you feel any better my LARGE window in my bedroom looks into a courtyard and gets absolutely no sun. Its eternally midnight in my apartment.
I like your corny joke.
ReplyDeleteAnd my old place had windows, but none of them were able to catch much light through the trees. Now I'm in my new place, and I have a huge picture window and the bedroom gets tons of sun. I keep going back to check to see if I left the light on.
And hey, if you're only going to have one window, I think that's a super one to have.
A window into your kitchen sounds fantastic. You can just reach thru for food.
ReplyDeleteLooks like a window that would be on the set of a Children's Programming show. Like Sesame Street, Pinwheel, or Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood.
ReplyDeleteI think I could put up with a tiny window for exposed brick and 16-foot ceilings!
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, you only have ONE window? exposed brick is lovely but a cave? I love your ode though, adorable.
ReplyDeleteI shook my head and laughed when I read about "the pane".
ReplyDeleteI still love you though and would kill for an exposed brick 16ft ceilinged apartment here in Chicago!
that is so weird that there is only one window, haha. but i love your joke :)
ReplyDeleteI laughed at the joke.
ReplyDeleteCorny, yet effective.
If it makes you feel better, I have a gazillion windows, but no light because the house is shaded by trees.
ReplyDeleteDoes that ease your pane? ;)
I used to have an apartment with only two windows - even though they were bigger, they looked right onto the alley.
ReplyDeleteAfter almost three years, we fled - I needed the light!
hahaha poor window.
ReplyDeletebut that is hilarious.
clearly the architects were like, dude, you know what would be really funny? IF WE ONLY THIS PLACE ONE LITTLE WINDOW!
I'm confused by the window facing the hallway. Is the hallway an outdoor hallway??
ReplyDeletemaybe your window is sad because she is wearing a mini blind- give your window some flair!
ReplyDeleteBirck oven pizza is my favorite. You guys probably make some good ones in there.
ReplyDeleteHow punny!
ReplyDeleteI loved this entire post.
That's all.
your one window and my gazillion windows need to find a happy medium. i feel like i have waaaay too many sometimes. lots of blinds to open and close each day, lots of windows to make sure are closed if it's going to rain, etc.
ReplyDeleteps- i love those brick walls!
Too funny! I bet your window loves you back.
ReplyDeleteAww, little window! I love the pane joke (hopefully that won't happen) and your apartment sounds cool, minus the whole natural light thing. When I was looking at apartments, I found a lot of them only had a few windows. It's weird.
