blogsecret blog swap

Tuesday, November 18, 2008

the rules to blogsecret are simple. you write a post, a post that you would never have the guts to publish on your own blog. a secret that one would be too embarrassed to share with your regular readers.

so
nilsa came up with the idea to allow fellow bloggers a completely anonymous post hosted on a fellow bloggers site. all without anyone knowing the author. 79 blogs are participating in the swap - including myself.

and boy is mine extra juicy. if you have some free time on your hands you can head over to nilsa's and check out all of the participating blog links. maybe if you're really smart (and have a lot of time on your hands) you'll be able to click through all the links and figure out which one i wrote ; )

so without further ado the following is the post that i am hosting today. remember i did not write it, so be kind to my secret blogger buddy, maybe you can help her out.

____________________________________________________________________________________

This is so embarrassing. I hope my secret's host is not mortified and I don't offend the home crowd too much. Here goes nothing: I don't know what I am supposed to do about grooming my, well, you know, "area". I was never that worried about it until I saw the Sex and the City movie... not I am mortified that my husband is thinking the same thing that Samantha said to Miranda in Mexico, regarding an unfortunate issue with her bathing suit.

The only option I have ever really heard mentioned in magazines, or in movies/television is waxing. Now that presents a whole other problem...where does one even go to do that? I know everytime I go get a pedicure the ladies ask me incessantly if I need my eyebrows waxed, but is there some code for other waxing needs?...oh, and I saw a home Brazilian Wax kit at CVS, but I am not sure that is something a novice should do to themselves (or anyone else really) at home. It really seems that should be a last resort.

So there it is. That is my secret. I am a grown woman who is not quite sure what she is supposed to be doing to keep herself "kempt". Any wisdom that could be imparted would be greatly appreciated. Oh. And for you knowledgable, well-groomed ladies, where did you get your information? And at what point in your lives did you start, well, you know...grooming?

  1. Who knew a post about pubic hair could be endearing??

  2. Ooh love this concept.

As for bikiniwax, I am a master. I have gotten it done once a month for work for about 8 years. Most places like have bikini wax now and they are skilled. It can be a bit awkward at first.
do not attempt waxing yourself if you never gone there before, it can lead to ingrown hair (sorry i know too much info) They do have some very gentle creams now that are supposedly quite good and unharmful for biking area. Reach me at my blog for questions

  3. I seriously promise my method for matching up blogging host with blogging author was RANDOM, but I cannot think of a more suitable post for you to have to put on your blog! Thanks for being such a good sport.

And as far as grooming goes. I'm kinda a low maintenance gal myself, though I'd NEVER venture into waxing without a professional's help. Not the first few times at least. =)

  4. a) If your husband doesn't care - then don't worry about it.

    b) Do NOT USE home kits!! AAAHHH! just no!

    c) The place to get a brazilian is a day spa.. just google some in your area. If you're in a severely rural spot, you probably would have to go into the city for one. If you do go, make sure you pop 3-4 ibuprofen about 45 minutes in advance and voila.

    d) If waxing doesn't appeal to you - just shave. Trim first w/the scissors and then shave. ;)

  5. i started shaving down there when i was about 16. and have ever since.

    clean shaven.

  6. Any day spa will do waxing for you. But if you dont care and your husband doesn't care, no one else will ever know. DO NOT try to do it yourself.

  7. I have only gotten my eyebrows waxed but what has helped me was finding a good waxer and taking two advil before I go.

Once I find a good waxer I may venture futher.

I would try yelp for some local suggestions and I would not use a do it at home kit.

  8. just look for a good salon/spa. thats were you can get the waxing done. if you're mans don't care...i say why bother. i just try to get it done for the beach because its more of a convenience thing (i haven't been able to time it right though). or my first time with a new dude...but that hasn't happened in awhile so.....

    ReplyDelete
  9. DON'T USE A HOME KIT!! If you want to go through with this (actually I've heard some men say they don't like Brazilian waxes on ladies), then go to a salon/spa where they do this. It takes just a few minutes and they do it properly.

And if your husband doesn't care, then don't do it for him. If YOU feel like doing it just to see how it is, then go for it.

  10. another option - especially if you have sensitive skin - is to get one of those little electronic beard trimmers and just keep things.. uh.. a little more "in line" without actually stripping the hair off.

  11. How am I supposed to participate anonymously when I keep publishing photos of myself?

    ReplyDelete
  12. I've had several bikini waxes and they hurt like a sonofabitch. Now I just shave. THE ENTIRE THING. My fiance loves it clean and after a while, it grows a lot less.

    ReplyDelete
  13. If you don't feel like going to the spa to get it done just shave it. It's cheaper and easier...even though it doesn't last as long.

    ReplyDelete
  14. If you're going to shave, first use clippers. without an attachment, it doesnt hurt at all. If you go and shave it before trimming, you will be sorry.

Be very careful when shaving, use a special razor ONLY for that, dont use teh one you use for your legs (meaning, a clean new razor) and the best thing ever for no ingrown hairs is coochie shave. its great for legs too!

  15. Uhhh... well while I certainly like a "groomed" woman... It's not necessary. That being said... I trim mine just to keep it from getting unruly. Other that that... I got nuttin. HTH.

  16. Oh! My friend and I just had a discussion about this.

I was young when I 'gained my information'. I was a swimmer - a very fast swimmer who spent her life swimming with older girls. They basically taught me all I needed to know!

In the beginning, I would just shave it all off. As someone above said, trim it down first! But now, I wax it. Some people don't like the pain, and I would suggest that they just do a bikini wax and not a brazilian. I'll be honest, I do it completely for me. Getting waxed makes me feel ridiculously attractive!

    Good luck!

  17. My best friend introduced me to the bikini wax. I was prepared for the worst but apparently my pubic hair was all to happy to be seperated from my body. The technician pulled the first strip off and immediately apologized...'I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to take that much off at once!'

I was all, 'Huh? Is that it?'

    Ah, memories.

  18. If your man doesn't care, then I wouldn't worry much. My husband says no to the Brazilian ("it makes me feel like a pedophile"). I got a bikini wax at a spa for our honeymoon, and it wasn't painfully really at all. Since hubby doesn't care, I won't do it again. We both agree that neat and trim is fine, so I use his beard trimmer with the attachment (not attachment and it's...uh...too prickly). It works great. I don't recommend scissors near your bajingo...WAY too dangerous!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Like many people said above me, do it for you, not for the hubby. I fhe doesn't care, why go through the hassle? On the other hand, if you're curious, try a shave at home first and see if that floats your boat before dropping a pretty penny on a pro wax job. Google is your friend for how-to guides!

  20. My wife and I have both tried shaving/waxing. I like her to be trim or smooth but it's not a dealbreaker. She doesn't care so much about my follicular status -- I just tried the waxing as an exercise in empathy, right before a week-long vacation trip.

Holy crap. Those curlies did not want to leave their home. The lady said next time would be easier and the roots will be shallower.

    I haven't tested it yet.

  21. Wow, this really is oddly perfect for Alexa's blog!

I started "grooming" when I became sexually active. I never really liked the "bare" feeling, so I trim and leave it at that.

I think it's mostly personal preference, and between you and your hubby... and I would NOT do the home waxing kit!

  22. Oh my gosh, I've just been thinking about this this week!!! For me, shaving is such a pain the ass, so lately I've been considering trying a bikini wax. Except I just can't get up the nerve to make the appointment.

    ReplyDelete
  23. So you wrote this, right Alexa?

    ReplyDelete
  24. Ask for a Brazilian to get everything waxed off, and a Bikini wax for just the bathing suit line. And ask your husband what he would like to see down there. Does he like everything gone, or does he like a clean bikini line and the rest of it trimmed? Just ask him. Or do what you like.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I can't even imagine a "home" Brazilian wax - that really should be left in the hands of a professional! And as for the grooming in general, if you don't think you need it or want it - then don't worry about it (unless of course you do look like Miranda in the movie, in which case ad sarong might be in order).

    ReplyDelete
  26. If it doesn't bother you or your partner, I wouldn't worry about it.
Buw, if it does, go to a dayspa and ask about a Brazillian. I've never had one, but I'm sure the waxers are experienced, and have done it so many times that they're well and truly over the whole weird, uncomfortable, self-concious side of it. :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. I think I love the comments on this one just as much as the original post (I can't believe someone wrote 'bajingo') For me, I (secretly!) use my husband's beard trimmer!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Don't wax yourself! Don't do it!
Also, don't go to a beauty school that offers waxing cheap because it's a student doing it... but definitely have it done at least once, even if it's just a bikini wax (a Brazilian is actually not good, pubic hair is there to keep bacteria out!) but to just look...nice, I'd say try it at least once. Believe me, those waxers have seen plenty of va-jay-jays. They're desensitized. ;D

  29. I would say if you are interested in waxing, just go for the bikini first to see how you feel about it. And don't worry about what the woman waxing you will think. They do it day in and out, and see lots of pubes.
Also, I personally like to just keep things trim with a bikini trimmer, unless I am going to be in a bathing suit. (like a beard trimmer but in pretty colors and easy to find anonymously on Amazon)

  30. The comments on this post are enlightening to say the least. I love reading the suggestions, all of them.

    ReplyDelete
  31. DO NOT TRY TO DO IT YOURSELF. I tried. It hurt so terribly. I couldn't even pull the first wax strip off. Omg. It's the worst.

If you're not too concerned and your husband isn't too concerned, why not just keep yourself a little trimmed? Maybe shave the bikini line and trim the rest of the hair just to keep it under control. There's not some unwritten law that women need to be bald down there.

  32. I found this one to be very helpful: I started shaving, but I always feel like it's a bit "uneven" to say the least. Some good advice in the comments AND I have to say that it's nice to know one isn't alone, right? :)

  33. im part of alexa's "home crowd," and im not offended in the least!

im with the others- definitely say NO to the home kits. check out a local spa, a place that is comfy and relaxing and maybe a place that a friend has been to.

at what point in my life did i start... grooming? probably earlier than others, being a swimmer. i was always pretty conscious about that, being in a bathingsuit every single day!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Sounds like she's got a pube-a-do going on (a nether region that looks like hair on someone's head). As long as it's not hanging out every which way from her bathing suit (a definite DON'T), I say embrace it.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I really love this post! =)

I don't have the time or the money to wax, I've shaved & trimmed since I was in my late teens and as long as you do it every couple days you'll be good.

There are also some really funny - but helpful - how to/tip posts online for shaving without razor burn or all that stuff. You just have to google it from the safety of your own home = )

    ReplyDelete
  36. If you or your husband aren't overly concerned, I would just try a closer shave than usual, rather than the full monty, and find out if he likes the results... and take it from there!!

    ReplyDelete
  37. A full brazilian makes me feel like a 10-year-old, but I love a brazilian + "landing strip". I've also dated men who didn't like the brazilian and I'm fine with grooming myself in a way a boyfriend likes so long as it doesn't make me uncomfortable. A few things to know:

    1) Pop a couple of ibuprofen (as others have suggested) in advance.

    2) It gets easier if you go frequently (about every 4 weeks for me).

    3) DO NOT go the week before your period (or, and perhaps this is obvious, while ON your period, that's just gross) because you're more sensitive and it really does hurt more.

    4) Take the waxer's cue on whether you strip down completely or not. When in doubt, take off your pants and wait for her to tell you to take off your undies. Or flat out ask. They really, really, really have heard it all.

    5) I've found one (granted I live in San Francisco and I don't know how rural you are) who uses a new stick every time she dips into the wax. The thought of someone else's coochie germs in the wax from a double-dipped stick totally grosses me out.

    6) Don't expect to have sex within 2 days after your first wax. (So if you're going away for a romatic weekend or something, schedule your wax for a Tuesday).

And god bless the men who groom. I'm not into completely bare, but it's nice to know there are guys who understand that their beard trimmer has a secondary use.

  38. I can't say anything that hasn't been said. But I will say...DO NOT TRY TO DO THIS AT HOME.

If I were you I would go straight for the wax. If you shave and then decide to try waxing, you'll have to let it grow out for about 3-4 weeks again. Also, don't be afraid to ask your waxing woman loads of questions, this is her job. She's not embarassed by it. :)

    ReplyDelete
  39. You can buy a "Ladies Trimmer" at your local drugstore. Really easy to use and safe. I love mine!! I used to use my hubby's beard trimmer, then I thought he might not like that...lol

  40. I totally sympathize and relate to this secret - Anyone know of a good brazilian waxer in the Cleveland area? :)

  41. Alliyah @ Zen Salon Ohio City. Best in town. And why isn't there a category for this service in Cleve Mag's "Best of"?
