[i recently went on a cyber date with one of the blogosphere's hottest male bloggers, ben, from no ordinary rollercoaster. i'm sure you wanna see if i put out right? check it out ]

when i was on my insane laundry/cleaning spree sunday i had a particularly odd realization.

the laundry basket that i was using that still has my first initial and my last name written in sharpie on the bottom (in my mom's handwriting), i have been using for ten years.

my drying rack? ten years too.

the comb that i use everyday to get the tangles out of my wet hair when i get out of the shower, ten years as well.

those three things were bought when i was getting ready for my new life as a college freshman enrolled at the university of dayton.

that was august of 1998.

ten years later i still use some of those original back-to-school objects.

seriously, how is it possible that i, the queen of consistently throwing away perfectly good things has managed to hang onto a single white comb with purple tips that i bought from marc's in 1998?!?!

in reality the only other thing i'm still stuck with are the friends i met my freshman year of college, and maybe some old socks. of course i like the friends a bit more than the old socks : )

what kind of random objects are still a part of your life ten years later?

featured blogger friday v4

Friday, September 26, 2008

so i've hung out with my friend narm a handful of times over the course of our blog turned real life friendship and during not one but two of those encounters he was wearing the "cleveland's a plum" t-shirt i gave him.

since that isn't weird at all, he shall now be dubbed my #1 fan.

although it was a little awkward when he asked me to autograph the shirt and spray some of my perfume on it.

but seriously, i love this kid because he's good people and i would hang out at the harbor inn with him any day of the week - as long as he stops his chronic yawning and frenches anyone i tell him to.

so without further ado, live from cleveland, your friend and mine! heeeeeeeeeeeere's nommy.

Who are you and what is your blog?

I am Narm. Hear me roar. My blog is White-Collar Redneck. Free boobies to everyone who goes there.

Where are you typing from?

The Land of Cleves, clEVILand, The Mistake by the Lake – the hometown of Alexa – everyone’s favorite blogger.

How long have you been blogging and what platform do you use?

My blog and I have been dating since last September – so a year now. I use blogger because I am too lazy (read as: stupid) to buy my domain name.

Sum up your piece of the internet in one sentence.

How about two words? Sexy mess. And Free Boobies.

Are you an anonymous blogger or do you scream who you are from the rooftop?

I scream my name from the rooftop. Luckily I live in Cleveland so like four people hear me.

Do your readers know what you look like?

Yes – and thanks, Ladies, for all of the fan mail. Guys – your letters are kind of creepy but I’m still flattered.

If you could become famous from blogging like dooce would you want to?

I’m not already? Damnit. Did I mention Free Boobies?

So you just drank a bottle of wine alone and you’re sitting at your computer, who are the three bloggers that you email or google talk with?

Probably with Alexa (do I say “you” or “Alexa”? I’m confused if I am talking to you or to your readers…what’s that? Don’t look at the camera? This is so hard.), Taawd and Allison M.

How many blogs are in your google reader?

61. I’m weak. That is about 56 more than I have time to read daily.

If you had $1000 to spend and could only buy one item, what would you buy?

A video camera to film Kindergarten Cop 2.

What’s your favorite thing to do after 10pm?

Embarrass everyone around me.

Top three favorite movies from your childhood.

Pee Wee’s Big Adventure

Ghost Busters

The Blues Brothers

Name something random that I could find if I was snooping through your purse/wallet?

$2 bill. I would take it out – but then it wouldn't be the random thing you would find if you were snooping through my wallet – so I don’t see the point.

Link to a funny you tube video you like.

Click Me!!

Wanna share a secret with me, I promise I won’t tell… <--- that’s a lie, but tell me something anyways.

I’ve never seen Dirty Dancing, Footloose, Pretty Woman, Grease OR When Harry Met Sally.

If you could trade places with one blogger for one day who would it be and why?

Obviously Alexa because I want to know what it feels like to be a Cleveland celebrity.

Who’s your blog crush?

Hopefully my blog doesn’t crush anyone. That would be messy.

Parting words of wisdom?

Bears are scarier than sharks.

[side note :: narm and i are putting together a cleveland blogger's meet-up and if anyone is interested in attending send an email to clevelandsaplum @ gmail . com]

my hips don't lie

Thursday, September 25, 2008

so i have a couple of bum hips.

you wouldn't know this by looking at me, i can still run, jump, skip, do cartwheels and shake my booty at old school hip hop night this weekend.

but when i was 12 years old i had three 6 inch screws drilled into my left hip bone to stop it from slipping out of socket. the surgery fixed the problem and i got a huge scar out of it that i still to this day think is super sweet. bonus.

then i come to find out that i need this surgery done to my right hip as well. bummer.

but being the selfish 12 year old that i was i lied and said that it didn't hurt anymore so that i didn't have to get the surgery all over again. i was about to enter junior high - the last thing i wanted was to be on crutches another 3 more months.

fast forward fifteen years. my right hip that i should have gotten surgery on pretty much constantly aches. so much so that it hurts to do simple things like oh, walk.

but being the badass that i am i completely ignore the pain and carry on with my life. i just don't have time.

but once the sharp pains down my leg started i figured i should probably make an appointment with a specialist at the cleveland clinic.

that appointment was today.

basically my doctor compared my right hip to a tire. it has a certain amount of miles left on it till it needs to be replaced.

and since i'm not an 80 year old grandma there is something called hip resurfacing that will need to happen within the next 5 to 10 years. and when that wears away, which it will, i'll have to have a full hip replacement in my 60's. awesome.

but here's the clincher, i can't have the surgery till i am done having kids. so it looks like i have a time limit on my baby making.

no pressure.

of course i started crying. the doctor looked at me completely deadpanned all tom hanks like and said, "are you crying? there's no crying in orthopedics." as he handed me a tissue.

i immediately started to laugh.

well reality has sunk in, and there's nothing i can do to stop me from having this surgery. if i do lose weight it'll help with some of the pain but the arthritis has already sunk in.

my doctor told me to take tylenol arthritis till i can get the surgery.

hmmm. maybe i am an 80 year old woman!

ode to my window

Wednesday, September 24, 2008

most people that have been to my apartment would say that i have very nice abode.

16 foot ceilings, tons of exposed brick, great location, an open floor plan, *basically* right on the water and i have a big deck that gets all the afternoon sun.

sounds nice right?

it is! except for one little thing...

there is only one window,
ONE window.

and that window is a mere 3 feet by 3 feet, surrounded by brick - and doesn't open.

exhibit A

hey there little guy, i still love you - thanks for sharing the sun with me.

but now that i shared my small window with the internet i sure hope my window doesn't start to get window envy.

the next thing i know my itty bitty window is going to be all glaring at bigger windows and picking fights.

there will be broken glass everywhere!! the pane, the pane!*

....

so you may wonder how my apartment gets additional sunlight. well my roommate's bedroom has a window to the hallway outside our apartment which then has a window to the real outdoors. so she gets filtered light from that. it actually gets pretty bright in her room.

then there's my bedroom.

my bedroom has a window - that looks into my kitchen - which strains to absorb a bit of the sunlight that shines through exhibit A. it's cool because i'm really a vampire and don't like natural light.

i'm really not complaining though, - i do like my apartment! (see the aforementioned pros) i just find it hilarious.

on a positive note. when hurricane lake erie finally blows through the cleve i only have one window to worry about boarding up. high five!

*this maybe the corniest joke i have ever told in my life and i love it.

[also, i have a guest blog up today over at who's your dachshund featuring a video of MOB's fabulous monti the wonder dog! check it out people!]

i was having a conversation with my mother (per usual) over the weekend about how i wanted to get back into working out but i felt like i simply didn't have the time. between work, social obligations and normal running around time it's all a bit busy for me these days.

well she looked me straight in the eye and said if you spent even a quarter of the amount of time that you spend on reading, commenting and writing blogs on working out you would be a way happier person.

she is exactly right (per usual).

my blog addiction is seriously forcing me to spend A LOT of my free time on the internet. and no i'm not one of those crazy i don't step away from my laptop type of people - anyone who reads my blog knows that i have an active social life.

but if i could just work out and exercise at the same time it would kill two birds with one stone!

after discussing over google talk with maxie we decided that a laptop stationary bike would be ideal.

straight to google i went and there are actually prototypes out there!

this is exactly what i need!!!!

now i don't want to EVER be this buff, but i don't mind if a man this buff wanted to be with me, hello lova-ah.

so now that i know they exist, where can i buy one of these things?!??! or maybe i should get all crafty and make one myself. hmm, decisions decisions.

i think i'm going to head to home depot - stat. if that doesn't work anyone have some sweet time management tips for me?

now that's a hot car

Sunday, September 21, 2008

so what did i do this weekend?

i slept, relaxed, slept, relaxed, ran some errands, slept, did a practice run on j-birdie's wedding day make-up, slept, celebrated my aunt's 60th birthday and slept.

$100 if you can tell me the theme of my weekend.

(i will not be actually paying out $100 - too bad, so sad.)

any who.

there was one major event that was worth writing about for the weekend. my thea eros' 60th birthday (thea is aunt in greek). what made it so unique, other than the fact of it being a milestone birthday, was that my fabulous family from toronto who made my whole
film festival experience a possibility, decided to bestow a very special gift on my aunt.

a car.

a fully restored 1966 Pontiac LaMans convertible to be exact.

this car meant a lot to my thea eros because her husband, my uncle nick had a car just like it back in the day when they were simply dating. personally, i think they got frisky in the back seat ; )

it was a complete surprise for my aunt as a bunch of friends and family last minute headed to my aunt and uncles house to present her with the car.

it was a trip down memory lane for her and everyone in attendance - except for myself being that i wasn't even born until 1980.

my thea eros and uncle nick in her new birthday present

just the girls going out for a spin - they literally cruised by their old boyfriends houses!!!

the moms - cathi, thea eros, carolyn, cynthia and my real mom - i love these ladies.

my uncle nick opening up a gigantic bottle of champagne to help celebrate - opa!

so now it's sunday and i have been relaxing with my mom all day - it pretty damn comforting here on the couch.

do i really have to go back to work tomorrow?!?

"but mom, i don't want to!!!!"

get ready for quite the hodgepodge of a post here kids.

last night my boss' showed their appreciation for us by inviting the whole staff to the HOB foundation room. they sure know the way to our hearts. there were even raffle prizes - i won a gas card!!! high five! my volvo thanks you.

after many martini's were had i headed over to rock bottom brewery where allison and i crashed narm and taawd's bromantical thursday night date. i was already a few sheets to the wind when i arrived so i think my blogger friends had some fun laughing at me.

i mean, i can't help it that i was trying to get narm to french the waitress - there is nothing wrong with frenching!

after rock bottom allison left us like a good girl on a school night while narm, todd and i hit up the harbor inn. all in all it was a fabulous evening with my friends who i just happened to have met through blogging.

we really all as a whole blogging community need to come up with an international code word for blogging friends that isn't say, "this is my blogger friend" while i then proceed to watch my non blogger friends giggle.

i'll take suggestions in the comment section.

anyways on to more blogger love - this weeks featured blogger is my friend deutlich! i honestly can't say enough kind words about this woman. i have been fortunate enough to hangout with her in the "real" world and her no holds barred blunt style is just like mine - so it works.

she listens to my problems and random bursts of chatter day in and day out and can even just tell when i need to talk. she gets me, and isn't that what friends are for? so without further ado...

Who are you and what is your blog?

I’m Deutlich and my blog-dizzle is Speak On It. Also? I’m supercool. Like, so cool you’d turn to ice if you touched me.

and I might’ve just disproved my entire stance with that last sentence. Whatever.

Where are you typing from?

My werk cahmp-you-ter. I like to talk funny. Too bad I’m writing this.

How long have you been blogging and what platform do you use?

Uh, truthfully? Since back in the day when it wasn’t even called “blogging.” In other words, just over eight years. I’ve only had Speak On It since ’07, though.

Sum up your piece of the internet in one sentence.

I’m overly honest, enjoy blunt truths, push buttons and like to make people think.

Are you an anonymous blogger or do you scream who you are from the rooftop?

Anonymous is subjective. Heh. I keep it “anon” so my co-workers can’t find my shit. I don’t like them enough to talk to them, so they definitely don’t need to know anything about me either.

Do your readers know what you look like?

Some of ‘em do (heeeelloooo everyone I’ve met thus far).

If you could become famous from blogging like dooce would you want to?

F@ck no.

So you just drank a bottle of wine alone and you’re sitting at your computer, who are the three bloggers that you email or google talk with?

Uhm. Me? I’d probably be praying to the porcelain gods. I have the stupidest stomach on the planet.

How many blogs are in your google reader?

Too damn many.

If you had $1000 to spend and could only buy one item, what would you buy?

A new DSLR camera!!!!!! But does it come with lessons? Cuz I need them.

What’s your favorite thing to do after 10pm?

Sleep! No lie. I’m an 80 year old grandmother trapped in a 26 year old’s body. For that matter, my grandmother can roll harder than me. WTF is up with that?

Top three favorite movies from your childhood.

Pippi Langstrumpf in German (ie: Pippi Longstocking), Lean on Me and Dirty Dancing

Name something random that I could find if I was snooping through your purse/wallet?

CDs and a business card for a “special delivery service” in NYC. And by “special delivery” I mean “weed hook up.” It’s 4 years old. I’ve never used it and don’t smoke anymore. At least not frequently. *ahem*

Hmm… a secret? Do I even have those?

If you could trade places with one blogger for one day who would it be and why?

I pick Nicole Antoinette because she’s on the other side of the country and I like to travel. Oh, and the cookies. Definitely, definitely the cookies.

Who’s your blog crush?

MentalThreesixty (aka the boyfriend)

[in regard to tuesday's post - salami rose succeed in eating 99 dum dum's in one work day!!!! to see the video recap and to watch her eat all 99 CLICK HERE!!!]

what is it about a new person being introduced into a group of friends or coworkers that makes them open for the pounce?

and why does this pounce gets more pronounced and blatant if this person is single.

are people REALLY that desperate for a relationship? or is it just about sex?

for example, i know i have mentioned to you all that i have a new roommate. she has been my friend for awhile but she hadn't met a lot of my downtown guy friends.

literally the second they all met her they took me aside and in some shape or form were all like, "she's cute, hook me up!", "put in a good word for me" and "bring on the hottie".

now, i'm all up for playing match maker. i mean isn't it three marriage matches gets you into jewish heaven? greek heaven, jewish heaven, same thing.

anyways... i guess i just never really noticed how much people pounce on the newbie. it's unreal!

now my single ladies, say for example a new hire starts at your job - you know you have to immediately check his left hand and/or find out if he is taken. (men, you do the same thing!)

if he's cute and not taken it's like the stars align and there's a full out polite girl fight - people start calling dibs on him. it's even gone as far as seeing my married friends call dibs on men for their single friends! like whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat?

i believe that this is something that has been going on for centuries for men and women alike, but for whatever reason today i had the a-ha moment and realized how blatant we really all are about it. it's like everyone is a meddling greek mother (i say that with love).

and i'm just as guilty of this as the next person.

maybe i'm just mad that no one calls dibs on me. i'm thinking i should work on that.

hey, at least i have my personality right? vomit.

prune of the week 9.16.08

dear city of cleveland,

i understand that traffic cameras are a great revenue builder for you - i get it. i have learned my lesson by getting nailed by 6 of your devil's cameras when i first moved to cleveland.

at that time, i didn't know where your cameras were located (lakewood, payne, shaker square, etc). i even got two in one week sent to my mom's house in canton. i gave you your money at $100 per ticket and didn't complain, too much.

over a year ago when i started working at my current company my daily drive down st clair ave seemed pretty easy until i got nabbed twice in one week by something called a MOBILE traffic camera.

i called you inquiring about where the speeding camera was located on st clair - i couldn't find it!. well one of your employees said that the camera is mounted on a camouflaged cop car's dashboard pointing into traffic.

so basically a cop sits on the side of the road in a disguised car and instead of the cop having to take the energy to pull a car over for speeding the cop can sit in his/her car, read a book and let the camera do the job.

no, that's not lazy at all.

and then, when they are feeling spicy they can move the car to another location to catch more drivers off guard when they open their mail and find a ticket.

st clair ave between e 13th and e 30th has officially become the devil's playground!

I HATE MOBILE TRAFFIC CAMERAS!! how is this crap legal?!? i mean seriously?!?

obviously i was angry when i got two of these mobile tickets from you a year ago but i took it as a loss and slowed down. but when i got a phone call from my mom the other day saying that i got another mobile ticket on st clair going 38 in a 25 - i lost it.

i don't believe the speed i was going for one second, i have been CRAWLING down that street everyday because of the MTC's. how do i fight something like this? i've given $800 to you (the city of cleveland) already and i don't want to give you another hundo. i shake my fist at you!

love your frustrated citizen,
alexa

p.s. if you ARE going to send me tickets at least you can send them to my right address which i have corrected numerous times with your records. at least then i don't have to get my mom AND my checking account yelling at me.

[no one is allowed to tell me to stop speeding!! i'm playing innocent here, i think these camera are rigged and illegal somehow!!]

dum dum eating contest

Tuesday, September 16, 2008

if you are reading this during work hours on tuesday september 16th, my dear friend constance, aka salami rose, aka connie is knee deep in dum dum sucker wrappers.

now i'm sure you're thinking that's a pretty odd thing to be knee deep in right?

well don't worry, there's a story behind it.......

and of course her office caught it on film.

consider this video the prequel, the trailer, the practice round - the appetizer if you will, to the main dum dum sucker eating event that is going on right. this. minute.

it's a must watch and make sure you put the volume on, constance is hilarious.

you're interested now huh?

i seriously can't wait to see if she makes it through the day. as of now she's on pace - and this girl runs marathons - so if anyone is up for the challenge the salami rose is.

here's to hoping she doesn't go into sugar shock.

check back tomorrow to see if she made it.

suck it girl!

burrito as big as a baby

Monday, September 15, 2008

just got home from a fabulous dinner at el tango taqueria in lakewood for wonger's 26th birthday - a group of 12 of us got together at the traditional mexican restaurant on madison ave.

the ambiance is excellent with fabulous lighting and a walk up order counter make it unlike your regular queso and chip joint. another thing that sets this place apart is that you won't find a salted margarita in the place because this restaurant is a BYOB location.

what is it about bringing your own wine to a restaurant that makes it that much cooler?!?

the service was excellent - they definitely took care of us.

oh and did i forget to mention the portion sizes?!? if you think chipotle has some big burritos they don't have anything on el tango taqueria.

case in point...

mel tackles this big burrito - i told y'all it was big!

no that's not a 9 x 13 pan of lasagna - that's a baked veggie burrito!

the chef brought out plates of what he called "tuna fresca" i call it prickly pear cactus fruit - tomato tomahto.

erin and bird suck on some cacti

if you get a chance to head out to lakewood to try el tango taqueria i highly recommend it's fun atmosphere and authentic mexican food.

this may be the first time that i have half drunkenly blogged. i promise not to make a habit of it : )

the browns/steelers game is still going on as i type this so i guess we'll all have to wait for a bit to see who wins.

i'm crossing my fingers for the browns obviously - but hey, michael phelps is even in town for the
game due to his buddy buddy friendship with braylon edwards. i mean if phelps is routing for the browns it's got to be a good sign right?

last night we spent our evening celebrating court's 30th at the reddstone and the old angle tavern - some pics from the night...

my blogs #1 fan in north carolina megan with the birthday girl court

travis take a turn with the birthday girl

court, matt, captain and muffin

we went home at a semi reasonable hour (2:30am is reasonable right?), because we had a big day of tailgating ahead of us.

so i have a confession to make, i have
never been to a browns tailgate.

yes, i know i live a block away from the stadium, i have absolutely no excuse. i can't help that i like bars!

but regardless if it was my first or 41st tailgate - i had such a great time. the weather for the most part held and i even ran into one of my best friends from high school which pretty much made my day.

some pics from this evening...

a view of the pit

erin (muffin's sissy btw), court and muffin

half of the group is paying attention to me the other half not so much

no my camera's lenses isn't dirty - that is all the gross dirt that was flying into our beers from the remnant's of ike's WIND!

me and erin ..... close up!!

erin and her sweet sweet poncho

once the game started the group headed to the w 6th bars, they all looked packed like below so we went to the map room for a packed, but not as crazy bar.

you didn't have much personal space at the blind pig

a piece or three of pizza later from the map room my couch and laptop were calling my name.

it's now the beginning of the third quarter and the browns are down by 7.

the games not over though... but my night sure is.

xoxo

UPDATE: yeah yeah i know, the browns lost - here's to hoping to not make it 11 loses in a row verse the steelers.

beep

last night was a lot of this...

and today/tonight will be a lot of this...

topped off with a browns win! i have a feeling your steelers are going down chris! well at least i hope so : )

i also have a feeling that work may suck monday morning. oy.

featured blogger friday v2

Friday, September 12, 2008

welcome to featured blogger friday everyone!!!

this week i have a wonderful guest for you who flew in all the way from california - mr. RS27.

golf claps.

no he deserves more than just golf claps, how about a standing O?

that's better.

you can sit back down at your desk now.

so this boy makes me laugh every. single. day. he even puts up with my drunken emails and stupid questions on google talk (he really likes it though). now i may not be his blog crush but he totally is mine.

group "awwwwwww" - too bad he disagrees with everything i say.

damn it, crush over.

anyways... here we go!

who are you and what is your blog?
I'm Rs27 and my blog is Your Beard Is Good. That was an easy one.

where are you typing from?
A computer. It would be pretty hard to do this from a typewriter or something. Then you would have to use white out and all that jazz. Lame. It's 2008.

The computer is located in Los Angeles.

How long have you been blogging and what platform do you use?
One year this month! Give it up for having to look that up! What platform? Um I stand for free speech and women voting. I can't wait until we make those things possible. My running mate is Snuggles. Who doesn't like Snuggles?

Sum up your piece of the internet in one sentence.
The most awesome thing you will read by the most awesome person written awesomely with awesome stuff being said awesomely.

Are you an anonymous blogger or do you scream who you are from the rooftop?
I guess anonymous. Even though if you e-mail me you will most likely get my name which then you can use to lookup who I am through my employee's site, Chippendales.com.

I'm the hot one.

Do your readers know what you look like?
That would be a no.

The only way I can describe myself is this way. Think of a Brown Brad Pitt. Now think of the opposite of Brad Pitt but still brown and add in a little Teller from Penn and Teller. Wait which one is Teller? The one that doesn't talk? Or the tall one? Anyways, I'm brown.

If you could become famous from blogging like dooce would you want to?
I already told Alexa my views on Dooce, let me just say, I'm all about becoming famous and forgetting about everyone that got me there. That's right suckas once I become famous don't act like you know me because I will ignore you. It's what famous people do. I'm not saying Dooce does that, I'm just saying that's what I would do because I'm a jerk.

It's on that Chelsea Handler show.

What makes Dooce so great? She's a mom? Whatever. She supports herself with the website? Whoop de-damn do. She's a good writer? There are a million good writers on the Internet. She just marketed herself the right way. There are a ton of great mom blogs. Also if you have over 300 comments a post, how about closing the comments up? You're not responding to each one anymore and your blog is much less personal. Not my thing.

This question made me annoyed. Next.

So you just drank a bottle of wine alone and you're sitting at your computer, who are the three bloggers that you email or Google talk with?
Well this is silly because I don't get drunk of off wine. I put wine down like King Kong Bundy body slamming a 10 year old. But for the purposes of this question I'll play along.

Dolce from La Dolce Vita because she's fun and might talk about boobs.

Chardsy from Laughing Through My Chardonnay because she's awesome and likes good times.

And probably…

Alexa because she told me to say her.

No I did unt!

I just did.

No seriously, Alexa, because she'll answer her blackberry and make me seem less like a fool.

How many blogs are in your Google reader?
79, who wants to be number 80?!?!

Please send check or money order for $5, a brief description and possibly a nudie pic. If it's a dude, disregard the last part.

If you had $1000 to spend and could only buy one item, what would you buy?
Man, one item?

A) A can of chef Boyardee and pocket the rest of the $999, but if that's not allowed….
B) A Vespa….Vroom Vrooom…You may be saying a Vespa is more that $1000 but I'm a good shopper and they have this thing called Ebay.

What's your favorite thing to do after 10pm?
Is this a PG blog? Well the thing I would like to do I can never get, so let's go with watch re-runs of Head of the Class. Arvid Engen was such a nerd! NERD! Dennis was cool.

Top three favorite movies from your childhood.
Flight of the Navigator, Mighty Ducks, When Harry Met Sally

I will have what she's having.

Ok I made that up...um, 3rd movie would be…

House Guest with Sinbad

Name something random that I could find if I was snooping through your purse/wallet?
A condom from 1994. Is that expired yet? Also half an ATM card. I don't want to talk about it.

Link to a funny you tube video you like.

Watch Me

Wanna share a secret with me, I promise I won't tell… <---- that's a lie, but tell me something anyways.
I kissed a girl and I liked it.

If you could trade places with one blogger for one day who would it be and why?
If you mean real life, I'm not sure I would trade with anyone. Is Bill Gates a blogger? Then I might change with him.

If you mean writing style, then I would want to be J Money from Typing Makes Me Sound Busy. She's ridiculously funny and her analogies are brilliant. Love it. If I didn't write like a 6 year old I would probably take notes.

Who's your blog crush?
My newest blog crush is Alice from Alice in Average Land. She's funny, witty and best of all she's Canadian. And I love Canadians. OH CANADA! Also I like to imagine that her profile pic is really her even if it's not.

I can dream.

Parting words of wisdom?
I've only been taught 3 things in this world.

1. Don't be late to your own party or all the alcohol will be gone
2. Asking a girl if she has herpes won't get you to second base

And most importantly

Never trust a girl with a big butt and a smile.

last night i cooked dinner for my roommate steph, georgia peach and the jerk. by all accounts is was a success cause i'm an awesome cook and we were listening to the new NKOTB cd that i won courtesy of the fabulous katelin (thank you!) from gorgeous footsteps in the sand - but that's not the point of this post.

we were all sitting outside after dinner when another one of our friends TJ decided to come over and drink some beers with us. we all are participating in our favorite pastime of giving each other shit when a little confession was brought to light.

while the georgia peach and her husband were out of town a few weeks ago TJ was given the task of getting their mail. as a way to thank him for being so kind the georgia peach and her nameless husband wanted to get him a little gift.

they decided on a DVD of harold and kumar escape from guantanamo bay for the obvious reason that nameless and tj have sightseed in guantanamo bay - but that's not the point of this post either.

after three glasses of wine georgia peach admitted that she had used a razor blade to open the cellophane to take out the DVD and WATCH IT prior to giving the gift to TJ!

they had watched the movie then had carefully placed the DVD back in the cellophane and resealed the packaging - and apparently this wasn't the first time she has done this. she then confessed other pre-watched DVD gift instances.

would this technically be considered a re-gift? or just a used gift?

regardless, TJ wasn't the wiser.

oh georgia, my sneaky little friend.

hilarious.

please tell me someone else has done this and that georgia isn't a freak.

[my heart and prayers still go out to the families effected by the 9/11 tragedies. on a lighter note though, happy birthday to my dear friends foxxy AND court - can't wait for hooples tonight!]

you can read the first recap of the toronto international film festival here to catch up if you need to : )

saturday night of the film festival i got to see my girl crush anne hathaway in the world premiere of rachel getting married directed by the amazing jonathan demme. honestly, i think i was more excited to see her than any of the other celebrities.

i have this weird fascination with her in thinking that if we ever met we would become best friends - it also doesn't hurt that she is ridiculously classy and beautiful. so i stalked watched anne and what looked to be her father walk the red carpet. i then ran upstairs to the mezzanine where we were sitting again (right by the cast) to get an over view shot.

i'm liking the shoes anne!

rachel getting married was very much on the dramatic side. you could tell that anne wanted to take on a more dramatic role - well she nailed it. it's a family drama about substance addiction and loss but it is still filled with lots of love. while there may be all sorts of drama going on the premise of the movie is still built around a wedding and how that wedding brings the family together. the entire cast was brilliant. there is oscar buzz for this film and i can see why.

i give this film 4 plums! (out of 5)

after the heavy film we all needed a glass or twenty of wine - next stop opus restaurant on prince arthur my uncle aris' favorite spot.

now i'm going to tell you a little about my uncle aris. he's a baller, think tony soprano but greek and not in the mob : ) . upon walking into the restaurant we got the best table in the house, immediately had bottles of champagne sent to our table. to the front of me the legendary alan alda was dining, behind me musician robin thicke was noshing. a little further down we had a whole slew of up and coming young actors from movies like
we are marshall and soaps like passions. it was pretty damn cool especially alan alda every time i heard him talk i giggled. yeah, i'm cool.

so opus is know for its wine. hell, it's wine list is as thick as an instyle magazine. so because my uncle aris is as cool as he is and by being such good friends with the owners i got my own personal tour of the wine cellar.

oh, and did i mention that opus just received the
2008 wine spectator grand award?!?

pretty impressive.. there was about 4 walls just like these.

guess this is what millions of dollars of wine looks like.

obviously i had to play with the cristal cause i'm immature like that. i was in heaven, i wanted to taste everything. oh and speaking of tasting - the food rocked. we had fois gras, black pig, filet mignon tartar, scallops and duck. screw being vegan - haha. oh and don't forget the dessert.

did i mention it was my uncle aris' birthday?! yay!

marcia and my mom - and to think she wonders where i get it from!

after dinner was complete my mom, marcia, melanie and i drank about oh 83 shots of patron while aris smoked cigars. gotta love when your mom is egging you on. by now it was after midnight and we took the car to muzik.

muzik is HUGE - it's like a palace! i've never seen such a big club. there are so many rooms and bars and people. you think you have reached the end of the club and then they pull back some curtains and there is a whole other room!

thankfully again to my uncle aris we get escorted in through the back door to our vip table. where there's a massive bottle of vodka waiting for us -
good god. i was already liking this place.

stepho, marcia and melanie were really into the goose on saturday.

there was food (like we needed any) drinks (like we needed anymore) and dancing - lots of dancing. even though i may have been dancing by myself.

so at the time i thought it was a good idea to take a video of my stumbly walk from one corner of the bar to our table. i mean don't you want to see how nuts this place was? oh and boys, there may or may not be scantily clad go go dancers at the end.

friends and family - i love toronto!

we had a blast saturday night, so much so that we all passed out on the drive home.

sunday morning i woke up, still drunk, and we headed to my final movie before the drive home. we took in ghost town the new greg kinnear, ricky gervais and tea leoni film. obviously it was a very commercially sound flick, it'll be popular with a wide audience i liked it. did it change my life? no. but if it is on tbs on a saturday afternoon would i watch it? yes.

i give it 3 plums!

so i can't thank aris, marcia and melanie enough for such a fun and amazing weekend - love you all.

TIFF 08 - part one

Monday, September 8, 2008

excuse me while i take out my flip notes and attempt to recap my whirlwind of a weekend. the toronto international film festival was to die for.

it didn't hurt that because of my fabulous family (thank you SO much), i got to do the film festival in some serious style.

my mom is actually still there - i wish i was too. oh well.

so the way the festival usually works is that at the first screening of a film the director, producers, and actors are in attendance. they do all sorts of press and what not and view the film with an audience. those screenings are called galas. i got to go to four of those (lucky me)!

friday night my mom, marcia and i got to see the world premier of
me and orson welles starring claire danes and zac effron, and christian mckay who were all in attendance with the director richard linklater. watching zac walk the red carpet was hilarious - there were girls screaming everywhere. zac's fans would end up being a nice little pre-game for the crazy brad pitt fans.

oh and the movie?!? it was cute, fun, light and breezy. claire danes is always spot on and zac was surprisingly good although that perplexing smolder lip pursing look he has going on was still in full effect.

on a scale of 1 to 5 plums i'm going to give this bad boy 3 1/2 plums.

after the
me and orson welles premiere we booked it across town, picking up cousin melanie on the way. it was time for the north american premiere of burn after reading.

now i'm more of a george clooney fan than a brad pitt fan so i was a bit upset that george couldn't make it (my guess is rehab). but brad is still brad right ladies?

i haven't heard such piercing screams since i was at a new kids on the block concert, seriously. people were going crazy but i guess i should have expected it. i was trying to play it cool, like oh, is brad pitt over there? haha

now im an asshole and didn't charge my camera battery (DOH!) but i did have my blackberry which actually ended up taking decent pics for a phone. i only got one real crowd shot of the pitt and unless you have a good eye you won't be able to see him in the swarm of people.

it's like where's waldo with brad pitt - hint: he's in the middle

so because we were rolling VIP we were sitting within rows of the A-list actors and directors.
joel and ethan coen directed
burn after reading in pure coen style (a good thing). the ridiculously A-list cast that were all in attendance included brad pitt, john malkovich, frances mcdormand, tilda swinton and richard jenkins. while the group were doing their press interviews i obviously took pics of the seating assignments in the roped off mezzanine - yeah i'm a total NERD.

brad pitt's butt was sitting here in between frances and tilda

um, yeah seriously starstruck. and it didn't hurt that the movie was hilariously dark - two of my favorite combinations. brad pitt was the best part of the movie hands down, even if you aren't a coen brothers fan go see this movie for brad alone.
i give this movie 4 plums!

my question is this though... does one laugh louder at a screening knowing that the creators and stars of a film were a mere 5 rows in front of you? do you want to show your appreciation more? i think i may have. and for those of you that know me, you know how loud my laugh really is....

by the time we had attended two night galas and drooled a bit we headed home, we did have to do it all over again on saturday.

saturday my mom and i attended the world premiere of the documentary more than a game. i got a lot of slack from my toronto family for wanting to see a documentary that just happened to feature my boy lebron james. but seriously, how could i NOT see this premiere?!?! you all know my love for him and basketball!

growing up in canton, ohio and living in cleveland following the fab five national champion st vincent/st mary high school basketball team was obvious. this team was amazing and very much deserving of a documentary.

when the director of the whole film festival announced the film saying that more than a game was his favorite film of the festival my mom and i were like, huh, maybe this is going to be better than we thought. it WAS.

we were both balling out eyes out by the end because although basketball was at the core of this film, i'll be cliche and say that it was about a lot more than a game of bball. it was about a group of friends who grew up and played basketball together from 5th grade, it was about a coach who cared, and family - that was at the heart of it
all. it just so happened that one of these players became the chosen one, pretty convenient eh? so i seriously can't gush enough about this film - GO SEE IT if you get a chance.

for the viewing the whole team and coach dru (minus cotton) got together for the screening. my boy lebron said on stage that he has only cried two times in his life from basketball. this screening being one of them - the big man cried on stage!!! i heart him. i heart romeo too, day-um he looked good. mmm mmm mmm.

obviously i had to snap some pics, they're still on my blackberry so they aren't the best quality. oh well.

lebron is the tall one...

i give this movie 4 1/2 plums! it was so good i even ganked two more than a game movies posters that were on the street as we were leaving the theater. now how can i get it autographed for my dream sports and movie themed furnished basement? picture a man cave but a lot more girly.

so yeah, i'm going to break this weekend recap post up into two. i still have another gala, another movie and a crazy night out on the town to discuss.

....to be continued.
