and thank god i do because it's something that i spend a lot of my time doing between work, blogging, twittering and gchatting the faster i type the quicker i can move onto the next thing.
personally i think i'm a freakishly fast typer - typeracer told me so. i'm also such a badass typer that i don't even have to look at the keyboard while i'm typing proving me a queen multi-tasker.
need me to approve an ad design?
no problem.
just put it in front of my face and i'll seamlessly approve the design while i'm continuing to type a perfectly punctuated email to the mayor of cleveland accepting his invitation to present me with a key to the city of cleveland in appreciation for my work on spreading the word to the masses about how awesome cleveland is through my work on this blog.
impressive i know.
so i've decided that i need to put my skill to the test with a little experiment. i'm going to write the next section of this blog while wait for it.... i'm blindfolded.
who needs to look at the keyboard when you have skills like mine?
as i'm typing this i have no idea where this is going. here i am sitting trying to make perfect words without any misspellings when i realized that i am a horrible speller and if i can't look at the screen how an di supposed to be able to tell if i have alittle red line under the words? wortks like deinintely? i ALWAYS spell definietly wrong, always. i'm not sure why it is so hard dore me to spell but i guess i'lll just have to deal with it and come to the realization that i am never going to know how to sepell definitelt without the help of spell check while simultaneously looking at the the computer screen.
well that experiment didn't go as planned now did it? i'll give myself a B- on that test.
think you can do better? leave me a comment, but you aren't allowed to look at the comment form or your keyboard while typing it. then you must hit publish - no cheating!
no i don't thinki i can do better i suck at typing omg this is embarrassing.
ReplyDeleteI also can never spell definitely correctly.
ReplyDeleteIts one of the main reasons I switched to firefox because it automatically spellchecks anything I type.
Without it I could never trick people into thinking I'm a competent student!
this is a really fun test i think it is one of your best ideas yet and congratulations on the key to the city that is aesome!
ReplyDeleteok so i missed the W in awesome.
When I was in grade school, we had to take keyboarding classes, and for "keyboarding exams" we had to turn off the monitor, cover our fingers on the keyboard with a special keyboard cover and type out paragraphs the teacher gave us. I almost always got a 100. I just typed my comment using the same method, except I couldn't turn off the monitor because I'm on a laptop and on a laptop turning off the monitor means you turn off the computer, so I just watched the TV while typing (like I usually do). I hope I got a 100.
ReplyDeleteIsometimes type with my fingers on a table along to thoughts in my head. It is an odd habit.
ReplyDeleteWow! I'm pretty awesome!
ReplyDeleteoh go on then for a giggle i will type this whole reply without looking at hte keys
ReplyDeleteI bet i spell the wrong because i always do that even when i am looking
Considering the fact that I've taken like 4 keyboarding classes throughout middle and high school I should do pretty well on this little awesome test.
ReplyDeleteim going to go check my typing speed right now whoo hoo
I like to fo swimming with bow-legged women...
ReplyDeleteOne typo, now bnad.
Crap.
ok, my eeys are closed and the more i think about it the harder it is to do. you can't think about typing with your eyes closed and do it very well. howevyer i htink you did a bang up job!
ReplyDeleteCongrats in the tyoubg! U have shirt naiks nie so I can tyow bwtter!!! I think I am sucjung at thus because I an tunkung to hard!
ReplyDeleteThis is what it is supposed to say:
Congrats on the typing. I have short nails now so I can type better!!! I think I am sucking at this because I am thinking too hard.
Nuff said....
And here I thought I was a great typer. I took that speed racer test and it's humbling to say the least.
ReplyDeleteI always spell floriday wrong. For some reason, I like putting a y on the end of it. With one friend, whose ex wife lives there, i leave the y. because we botgh agree there's something very very wrong with floriday. ha.
how did i do? i typed this whole thing without looking at the screen - instead i watched good morning america!
i suck at trying to spell definitely too. i mess up with the "e" all the time. i also prefer to type this without my eyes closed because i would like to see whee the squggly lines are.
ReplyDeletei meant to write "squiggly" and "where". seriously? the only time i spell definitely right is when i close my eyes?!
I also like to think that I can type with my eyes closed but I guess we'll find out if that's true or not when I open my eyes now won't we? La la la.
ReplyDeleteBOOYAH!
this is definitely funny hahaha i wonder do i make any mistakes or not, i always seem to be typing fast but i dont know if im anyu faster than you, you seem like a super typer, thats great :D
ReplyDeleteI happen to have won the typing award in my vocational class I took four years of typing. Actually that is 2 typing, and 2 keyboarding.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was last tested at the temp agency I tested at 75wpm. When I did my second job, which was data entry and paid per keystroke I tested at 22,000 keystrokes per hour. I made some hella money there
yea. I'm bad.
I suck a typing. Hunt and Peck be thy name!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to type thgis comment without looking at it. I think I am a pretty good speller and typer, even without looking at the keyboard. Right now I'm lookining at the tv screen instead, watching Sex and the City in the morning. So, that's all for this comment.
ReplyDeletewow, only two typos!
I got some mad typing skills too, but if it wasn't for spell check people would think I was typing chinese.
ReplyDeleterememver macos beacon! i stinl!
ReplyDeleteHAHA! That was a hard test!
It was supposed to say "remember mavis beacon? i stink!" I can type really fast if i am looking at the keyboard! Cleveland is a GREAT city! I was a transplant there for over a year and now that I am gone, i really enjoy reading your blog and the plain dealer online! :) I miss CLE alot! :)
Ihate tuyping.
ReplyDeleteI doubt I couls so anu better.
ReplyDeletedefinitely is always a dooozie for me too...I wonder why??
ReplyDeletei am the worst speller on this planet. i blame it on the face that i did not have a real first garde teacher. nope, i had a sub the WHOLE year. can you believe that? we all thought she as actually a man. miss chambers was her nameo.
ReplyDeletewow, i wontder how bad this is effed up...?
you go fast when you leave out the capitalistion.
ReplyDelete(Looking now - Oh hey! That was pretty good!)
Um, so you know, I tried commenting yesterday and the site wouldn't work properly. That made me sad. Okay, now I have to give this "no looking" thing a try:
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear someone else mention TypeRacer, because I absolutely love that game. Though I'm not terribly good at it (sometimes). This closing my eyes thing has got to have a few coworkers looking at me a bit funny.
...Damn I'm good. (Swear to God I had my eyes shut.) My keyboarding teacher from high school would be so impressed.
gotta say that's pretty impressive. I'm not sure that I could do all that much better. But as I sit here with my eyes closed I'm feeling pretty good about it, if I do say so myself. Though it probably don't compare to your spped by any means. I'd estimate fifty wpm, at best. Still pretty damn good, right? Yeah, that's what I thought, too.
ReplyDeletei always wanted to learn touch typing like that, I am so jealous
ReplyDeleteI was pretty impressed with your typing. how did I do?
ReplyDeleteHmm... not bad. Just missed a capital "H." Then again, you don't capitalize on this blog. So I think I'm pretty good. (Even though I typed about six words!)
ReplyDeleteOh, typing. I'm a big fan and generally don't have to look at the keyboard for it. But it gets tricky when you accidentally misspell someone's name in a cutline because you weren't looking at the keyboard. ... I try not to make that kind of mistake.
ReplyDeleteI also don't look at the keybooard when I type, but I do look at the screen. Let's see if I can avoid doing that here...As aI type, I'm feeling very uncofident about my ability to not misspell anything.
ReplyDelete(looking at screen...)
Hey! not bad. Though I don't know if I could pass a keyboarding test!
nice little experimient. :-)
ReplyDeleteuhm. i love you.
ReplyDeleteI would normally be all over this challenge, but since my right arm is broken and I'm typing only with my left hand, I have to look --it's just too disorienting. Thwarted!
ReplyDeleteomg i love the comments so far! i never learned to type properly so this is going to be interesting... i have my fingers on the wrong keys normally when i type, so hopefully this is even legible when i'm done.
ReplyDeleteHOLY SHIT I AM AMAZING. well done me!
I alawys think i'm awesome at typing until I look away from the screen and then look back and go "holy shit look at all those errors!"
ReplyDelete---
Not too bad. But I also typed like 4 characters.
Hey alexa!! kinda ironic...im in computer class right now lol. umm i miss you and when am i going to come and spend the night in clkeveland?? i think i am doing pretty good. loive yah!! ((love your favorite cousinl)
ReplyDeletecool idea! i only type with two fingers but i'm oky at it i think
ReplyDeleteI use to type 120 wpm w/ 95% accuracy. Here goes nothing!
ReplyDeleteAs i'm typing htis I have no idea hwere this is going. here I am sitting trying to make perfect words without any misspellings when I realized that I am a horrible speller and if I can't look at the screen how am I suppose to be able to tell if I have a litttle red line under the words? Works like (WWHAT WORD IS THAT?) I ALWAYS spell definitely wrong, always. I'm not sure why it is so hard for me to spell but I guess I'll just have to deal with it and come to the realization that I'm never going to know how to spell definitely withou the help of spell chekc while simultaneously looking at the computer screen.
*not looking*
ReplyDeleteI don't think you did yoo badly.. probably better tham me anyway. =P
Feels like I'm back in school and my ttyping teacher is giving me the evil stare. I'd like to think of myself as a typing ninja, but I'm sure its rather attrocious with my eyes loserd.
ReplyDelete*opens eyes*
Hey, not so bad!
funidea! lovr it
ReplyDeleteActually I'm pretty damn good at typing without looking because my boss is an ahole who expects me to do things like talk to him and sdo all my work at the same time so basically I rock JUST LIKE YOU!
ReplyDeleteFun idea Alexa and you are pretty good. I stink at typing so I am not even going to attempt to type blindfolded. But I am a pretty good speller. It is funny because I have noticed how sooo many people spell DEFINITELY incorrectly on your blog. Just remember and associate it, it is defiNITEly....NITE, not night. Now I expect it to be spelled correctly from now on....ha. XO
ReplyDeleteToday I was substitute teaching and while the kids were supposed to be working on an assignment, I decided to check my email. Turns out I needed to reply to a few, and I did so by typing without looking at the screen because I needed to make sure the little buggers weren't messing around. Of course, I proofread the email before clicking "send", but I think I did a pretty good job.
ReplyDelete(I typed that without looking. A+!)
OH this is hilarious. Now I'm really feeling thankful that my father made me take a typing skills class before college. Funny.
ReplyDeleteWow...I did better than I thought!
Very cool site! I was a "megaracer". 60WPM 99.5 percent accuracy. :)
ReplyDeleteI always spell definitely weong too. But I read your mom's secret cheat up there and now never again...defi NITE ly! Tada!
ReplyDeleteI'm the world's worst speller. I lose with my eyes open.
ReplyDeleteI am the worst speller when i start typing fast and then rapidily start hitting return so I can actually send it as soon as possile. Okay iI did this and dint' cheat!!
ReplyDeleteim a wicked fast typer, not always so accurate. and spelling, lord help me. i wish we could havea virtual typing contest from cleve to beantown. maybe one day we can kmake it happen... somwhow.
ReplyDelete(that typing also looks eerily similar to my drunk keyboard skillz. go figure.)
ReplyDeletewere you really writing a letter to the mayor?
ReplyDeletehow'd I do
I haven't read any of the comments but I'm lookin gforward to it. I learned how to type REALLY FAST! from chatting on aol back in the day when it was wayyyyyy popular. This closed eye thing is a lot harder than it seems, but as long as i have my fingers on thejjome row, I think I am ok. Except when I go to backspace b/c I think i misspelled something, then it's hard to see if i deleted too many letters. Phew!
ReplyDeleteBecause of this typing exercise, most have overlooked the Key to the City comment......was that for real? If so, congratulations!! And, Jenna, why are you reading Alexa's blog in class?????
ReplyDeleteomg tia jo - i did NOT get a key to the city, it was complete sarcasm! haha. but i thought the same thing about your granddaughters comment as well!
ReplyDeleteI think you are an excellent typer, I too can look away, watch tv, yell at the dogs and never miss a beat. The word definitely? I always misspell too. I give you an A on that little experiment!
ReplyDeleteI think reading alexa's blog is an excellent thing to do while you're in class.
ReplyDeletekidding.
stay in school.
crack is whack.
I noticed that your spelling and typing got progressively worse as you went on. Interesting.
ReplyDeleteI also cannot spell definitely. But I think I may have just gotten it right there.
And no, I didn't look while I was typing this, but I Have mad skillz like you ;)
Why did you introduce me to typeracer? IDidn't need any other internet distractions! Oh, well. Also I'm writing this while watching amazing race. I'm going to practice this skills so that I can perfect my multi tasking skills. How'd I do?
