you don't?
too bad - you already clicked through.

so today after work while i was standing in my messy room thinking about how i should clean it i started mulling around my nightstand drawers (not the naughty drawer), and came across a container full of spare buttons.
you know, the spare buttons that come in a little plastic bag (not that kind of little plastic bag), with colored thread when you buy a new shirt?
well i have TONS of those little bags. i've been saving them for years and i have multiple containers of single buttons - i should probably make something with them (ha, yeah right).
so upon looking through my room a little more, spare buttons aren't the only thing i
i also have multiple containers of homies (little plastic action figures with an east LA chicano feel), that me and my friend sweet moves bought for fifty cents a pop every sunday at BW3's candy machines back in the day. i need to count all my homies but i think i have well over a hundred.

i own 18 out of 24 of this series alone - i'm awesome.
if you go to as many work/networking related events as i do you are inevitably going to acquire quite the collection of "hello my name is...." name tags. after every event i attend i bring my name tage home and add it to the pile of stickers reminding myself who i am and who i work for. it's turning into yet another awesome collection of mine.
after all of those less interesting collections there is one other little thing that i'm most proud of that i collect and keep track of....
HEY-O!
(kidding mom, kidding)
what do you collect?

I totally fell for the bedpost at first and I was a little bit in awe!! Great pic...
ReplyDeletesturdy bed ;)
ReplyDeletei thought my collection of 10 of those figurines was impressive, but 18? damn, girl.
ReplyDeletei collect ugly ass magnets from places i or my friends visit. the key is to find the cheesiest, most touristy magnet possible and display it proudly. let me know if you find an ohio or cleveland one that fits this criteria.
I used to collect cows on parade. They're so freakin cute. I guess you could say I collect jewelry because I have so much of it...wine bottles (empty of course). I'm totally a hoarder.
ReplyDeleteBut what about the other 6 homies, Alexa?
ReplyDeleteWhat about the other 6??
yeah i have a highly addictive personality and I love stuff, and shopping. So pretty much, I collect everything :) shoes, purses, clothes, books, movies! I have an impressive magnet collection.
ReplyDeletebut I think you would really be in awe of my button collection. Because not only did I collect but my mother and gradmother collected all those buttons with balls of string in case of emergencies. And I've now managed to inhereit the whole shebang. Three decades worth of buttons.
And I don't sew.
HAHA!! I love that you have homies. I dont know what happened to mine but I miss them all of a sudden.
ReplyDeleteI have a MILLION of those little plastic bags. I actually use them to hold my jewelry when I travel, it helps keep them separated when you are too cheap to buy a case.
ReplyDeleteHahahaha - That's just awesome, Alexa. I'm too freakin anal to collect much of anything... I throw everything away if it's been sitting around for too long. Though, I guess you could say I collect dirty clothes (I never seem to catch up in the world of laundry!)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the fact that you managed a reference to both the Princess Bride AND Weezer in just one image. Slick.
ReplyDeletei thought i was the only one who kept those buttons in the little bags! too funny.
ReplyDeletei collect salt and pepper shakers. and penguin things. there's a lot more actually. i wrote an entire post about this too last year and sadly i think people thought i was crazy after reading it :)
Hahaha, I had almost forgotten all about Homies. I had some of them too, now that I think about it I have no idea where they are. If I find them I'll send them your way.
ReplyDeleteI remember my older cousin had Homies when I was a little kid. You just reminded me of them now.
ReplyDeleteAwesome final picture.
As for my own collections, well... *look around in suspicion* I might...just a possibility here...have a decent sized-comic book collection. And by decent sized I mean I can have six stacks reaching the ceiling.
Oh Alexa, you crack me up. You really do :) I collect, uhm, I don't know. I'll get back to you when I decide to clean out my closets that I stuff with all of my belongings to make it look like my rooms are clean!
ReplyDeletehahaha you are a hoot.
ReplyDelete"hey-o!!"
I love homies!!
ReplyDeletei never save those buttons. And I always lose the original. You would think I'd learn to save them. Buttons are awesome things to craft with! Save them!
ReplyDeleteYou should ebay those homies. people buy the dumbest crap!
I collect spoons, from souvenier shops. And rocks. I take them when I go anywhere and see a rock I like.
Eye creams, moisturizers, makeup, earrings, rings, purses, shoes, cats.
ReplyDeleteHaha! I collect Eeyore, Footprints in the Sand, cats (live ones only!) and crafts of all kinds!
ReplyDeleteHaha, nice. I'll admit that I have a lot of those button bags (with the buttons still in them) because I'm always worried I will lose a button. But if I do, I don't even know how to sew, so that would be an issue...
ReplyDeleteI'm a pack rat so I have way too much shit in my house. My biggest collection is my nail polish. It's beyond ridic.
ReplyDeleteAnd for some reason, I've saved all the "Famous Dave's" stickers from all the Cleveland Rib CookOffs I've been to. Weird, I know.
I too have a drawer full of button and string bags. Do I combine them in one bag to make life easier? No, they're all random-stance in my nightstand.
Oh and I have movie theater stubs from every film I've seen since high school. No great plan for them, they're just sitting in a box.
What a great post! :)
ReplyDeleteI try not to collect stuff, since we tend to move around WAY too often.
I collect clothes on my floor...haha. Does that count!?
I do have those stupid buttons in bags, though. Argh!
I collect spoons too! My mom collects rocks, and whenever Jeff and I go somewhere she asks for a rock.
ReplyDeleteThe nametags remind me of one that Jeff has in his car from a family reunion last year. It is one of those "Hello my name is" tags but he used it for the food he brought. I would like to start an indie rock band called:
Hello My Name is Rice Pudding
Who's with me?
Ooh, do you still have the "Plum" nametag from our blogger gathering?
ReplyDeleteI too collect those buttons - but mine are in a little organizer I got from the Container Store when I lived in Texas. Though, they aren't exactly organized I suppose...
I like collecting books, but also manage to collect junk mail which I'm always too lazy to tear up and throw away.
ReplyDeleteWhich reminds me...I need to get all that junk mail off my table.
I collect collections.
ReplyDeleteI have all sorts of those buttons all over my room. The thing is, if I ever acutally lost a button, I probably wouldn't find its replacement in my room.
ReplyDeleteI used to collect so many things when I was younger. Candles, stickers, Pogs!! Now I mainly focus on rubber ducks (I have so many haha!) and Hard Rock Cafe shotglasses. I also have a small beach glass collection, and some shells too, but that's mainly for decoration.
ReplyDeleteYou cleaned your room!!!!
ReplyDeleteIt's a miracle!!
We had a collective Homies collection at my old job, but ours wasn't nearly as impressive as yours.
ReplyDeleteI have two things: a decent shotglass collection and those little guitar pins from Hard Rock. I don't know why on the guitar pins.
Also? I now have Weezer in my head. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteTHE WORKERS ARE GOIN' HOME!!
I'm with Marie on this one. I collect books. I read them, then never read them again but let them collect on my bookshelves. And paper, lots and lots of paper just piles before I scream and say "where the hell did all of this paper come from!!!"
ReplyDeleteTACKY shot glasses. Like sickeningly tacky. From everywhere.
ReplyDeleteHubs and I do the tacky magnet thing from every trip we take together. I used to collect porcelain masks when I was younger. They border the entire 13x14 bedroom I had at my parents house (still). I wish I knew what to do with them now.
ReplyDeleteYou were my personal hero for a second re: the bedpost. Now you're gonna have to work for it.
ReplyDelete*spank*
I'm sorry for being too innocent but need to know what's that on the bedpost lol. seriously.
ReplyDeleteI barely remember if i collect anything, stuffed animals I think.
Haha the bedpost thing is awesome.
ReplyDeleteI collect a ton of stuff, too. I think the strangest thing I collect is the tops of the Izze sparkling juices. They have this cool design and when I get enough of them I'm going to glue them all to a wooden frame. Too bad I only drink the things about once a month!
Also love the name tag! Princess Bride and Weezer? Awesome.
ReplyDeleteHahaha! I have tons of those bags of buttons too. I don't even know what most of them belong to anymore.
ReplyDeleteI don't really collect anything though. Apart from make-up. And clothes.
And books.
And DVDs.
And CDs.
Possessions mainly...
I collect gas receipts to track my mileage for fear it might not be high enough( crazy, I know) and crystals. I love rose quartz, amethyst, lapis, tourmaline, all sorts of stones. That bag of buttons and extra thread? I think it's taken over an entire drawer in my dresser!
ReplyDeletei love that you collect homies, they are awesome. i collect postcards, not nearly as cool. and my movie ticket stubs, i don't know what i plan to do with them, but i keep them anyways.
ReplyDeleteCute 'post' Lex. I knew it wasn't your bed...thank God. XOXO
ReplyDeletedude. i have RIDICULOUS collections like little erasers that are shaped like all kinds of things back from elementary school. and pins with phrases. and a shit ton of Backstreet crap. and shot glasses. and stickers. and pictures of puppies. and postcards. and.. uhm.. stuff.
ReplyDeleteoy.
ha! I have a friend that has those homies. I collect, hello kitty crap. Anything you can get in "hello kitty", I have it...ANYTHING
ReplyDeleteI tried to stop, but my parents/family/bf's/friends still give me hello kitty related presents at every chance
I used to collect everything, shot-glasses, rocks, coins, you name it. then I realized that it wasn't so much "collecting" as it was being a pack rat. Now I mostly just collect maps. And jam. I think I could definitely call my jam a collection. If I ever meet you in Rea Life, I'm totally going to give you a homie. We have a Mexican restaurant that has them.
ReplyDeleteI really could use your drawer of buttons today. My pants didn't have t button and I couldn't find a match. I wore them anyway. Big Mistake!
ReplyDeletei don't have notches, but i do keep A List. it started in college, when both my roommate and i showed up to school having each only kissed 1 boy in our lives, and then learning we were totally able to score guys all of a sudden, so we kept a secret list of all the guys each of us kissed. i no longer keep track of that (i can't count that high! HEY-YO!) but i DO have a list of the names of all the dudes i've done the dirty with :-)
ReplyDeleteomg homies!! I haven't seen those in so long. I gave my friends a bunch of Mijo's.
ReplyDeleteI love your blog's catch phrase :) Nice to meet you through BlogHer. I'm going to try to find you on twentysomething bloggers now...
LOL dude I have no clue what to do with all those buttons! I have them everywhere. Ahhh so annoying. I think I'm gonna start throwing them away!
ReplyDeleteYeah I have a ton of those baggies too with buttons and threads. I am very good at collecting those.
ReplyDeleteI totally have that same crazy button collection!
ReplyDeleteI also am a button fanatic and have a tub of all of them in their little ziplock plastic bags.
ReplyDeleteP.S. I was reorganizing my reader today and moved you into my "friend" folder vs. "Cleveland reads" since we've met like four times in person now...ahhh!
Hahahaha! Your mom is WAAY more cool about your joke than mine would have been! :)
ReplyDeleteI save all of my ticket stubs. Sporting events, concert tickets, museums, even plane and train tickets. And that one shady time I had to take the Greyhound. And also movie stubs. It's fun to look back and think, "Oh wow, I got to see 'Armageddon' for $3".
