by now we all know that twitter is an excellent
but it wasn't until recently that i realized one could actually subscribe to have someone's tweets automatically sent to your phone via text message when they update.
can it get anymore stalkerish than that?
i don't think so.
which means i immediately subscribed to receive a couple people's updates via text, but i'm starting to think it's too much - like i've crossed an unspoken twitter stalking line.
it's almost too easy now - it's no work at all...
i'm curious to see what people think about receiving twitter text message updates though. is it kosher and i'm just late to the game?
feel free to admit you get my updates texted to your phone, it's ok - i know i'm stalkworthy.
so for those of you on twitter do you have anyone's updates sent directly to your phone?
I've gone through phases where I've had tons of updates sent to my phone and then other phases where I delete everyone from my cell update that isn't the Backstreet Boys.. *ahem*
ReplyDeleteIn the end? It just gets to be too much. Sometimes, I'd rather just be in the dark.
nah i wouldnt do it... i dont care that much about stalking peoples lives lol... cuz no one important is on twitter that i know anyway
ReplyDeleteOh man, dude, I dunno about that. I mean, I'm a pretty stalkerish dude, even in my best of states (let alone when I'm on a Social Networking binge), but even to me, texted updates seem like the Stalker Express to Crazy Towne. Sorry, but I rule against.
ReplyDeleteNo, but this makes facebook stalking like child's play. Plus with foursquare, we are all in for it.
ReplyDeleteI have Twitter but don't really use it much. As for stalking anyone - I don't follow many and not anyone I consider "stalk-worthy" enough to have text messages sent to my phone...
ReplyDeleteI don't do it mainly because I'd have to pay for the text messages and I don't wanna! My phone bill would kill me.
ReplyDeleteYou can stalk me though! :)
I still don't tweet (I know, I know), but I feel like that takes all the skill out of stalking. It's kind of an art form...
ReplyDeleteWhat? Too much?
I don't mind not getting others' updates to me. What I want is to get a text every time I'm replied to.
ReplyDeleteEh - with all the cameras and the tracking device I put in your drink awhile back - it feels a bit redundant.
ReplyDeleteI don't do it simply because my phone going off constantly would make me nuts. I even get annoyed from the DM notifications. But then, I sit with Twitter open all day on my work computer, so I don't really need them either.
ReplyDeleteI do think it would be kind of creepy to have someone's tweets forwarded to your phone, though.
I'm cool with getting texts from people like John Mayer, so that we know about shows and stuff that he announces through Twitter, but even that gets really annoying. And other than that it makes me really uncomfortable.
ReplyDeleteI think it's because anyone can subscribe to receive texts of your tweets, and there's no way to tell who gets the texts. At least when someone is following you you can choose to have them not follow you or block them or whatever...
I actually had an almost argument with a friend of mine about it - she subscribed to get my tweets to her phone, and for some reason it made me really uncomfortable to know that.
I've decided that phone updates are from the devil. Even people I really think I want to stalk end up updating so often that I want to throw my phone into a swimming pool.
ReplyDeleteAnd that would just be sad.
As it is, people already know too much about me. And worse, I know more than I want to about most of my friends. =) That's why Twitter and I are not friends.
ReplyDeleteI know I've joked about only going on Twitter to click @peterdewolf to see what people have said about me. But, between you and me, that's really all I do these days.
ReplyDeleteI am entirely too self-absorbed for stalking.
every single update gets sent to my phone. I own a BlackBerry, and on said BlackBerry I have a little app called UberTwitter. It is a mobile portal to the twitter world.
ReplyDeletei know that you can also send these updates via SMS message to your cell phone, but I have not crossed the line considering the application I have on my phone. Oh the power of the Twitter App.
I didn't even know you could do this. Now I wonder if anyone is doing that to my twitter. I kinda hope so, I love a good stalker. But since I have twitterberry it makes it pretty easy to see everyones updates so need to get a text either.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I did it when I first started. It got to be too much so I deleted all of them. Now I just login to twitterrific and stalk my peeps from there.
ReplyDeleteYour tweets come straight to my phone set on vibrate kept in my crotch.
ReplyDeleteToo much?
Nope, but that might be because I think the application itself in my phone is enough ( I'm using ubertwitter ). You're right it's way more stalkerish if it's sent to phone though :P
ReplyDeleteI dont get anyones tweets sent to my phone, that is a tad bit stalkerish. I do enough stalking as it is.
ReplyDeleteI am going to do this immediately.
ReplyDeleteUmm, my new boyfriend does this and I kind of fucking hate it.
There is nothing wrong with stalking by Twitter. It's healthy.
ReplyDeleteWow...just thinking about how much money I'll save in gas and Rohipnol makes it seem worth it.
ReplyDeleteThis is why I keep coming back here. New and improved ways to become even more creepy. Sweet!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely no updates to my phone. I have no desire to know what anyone is up to often enough to be annoyed via text message constantly...
ReplyDeleteUhmmm.. being the most.curious.person on the planet .. I probably would. If I had a bb or iphone ... and lots of money to pay for the services they require. In this case, thank God I'm broke / cheap. I stalk through Facebook though .. does that count ?
ReplyDeletei barely use my twitter anymore....but even when I did i just got updates online.
ReplyDeleteyeah I stalk via twitter, so what?
ReplyDeleteI have a few of my friends' & fiance's updates sent to my phone but I've cut way back. my text messages were getting out of control. With all the twitter applications for the iphone there's really no need for it anymore.
I just use plain ol' Echofon to stalk you and others in Cleveland. :)
