everyone has their blankets

you know how linus from the PEANUTS always has his blanket?

well i've recently started to notice that i have quite a few "blanket's" of my own where that if i'm missing even one of them my world is just not right.

first being that i always have to have a black hair band around my right wrist - true that you never know when you're going to need to pull your hair back, but it's turned into an accessory that i've been sporting for about 15 years.

secondly, i always have to
have a bottle of water with me. normally it's my reusable university of dayton nalgene or a bottle of smart water but for whatever reason the thought of being thirsty at any given time and NOT having water freaks me out.

thirdly, my blackberry. file this one under duh.com - between twitter stalking, email, blogging, and facebook my little blackberry gets quite the work out day to day. i have a total obsessive compulsive disorder when it comes to making sure that my little red message alert light is NEVER blinking.

actually now that i think about it my "blankets" aren't that odd.

hair band, water and my blackberry - totally normal right?

so what are your daily "blankets"?

  1. I hear you on the water thing. (And if I don't get my hair cut soon, the hair band is a distinct possibility.) But I've resisted the call of the Blackberry. So far. I'm far too OCD to have one. I need a break from you fuckers sometimes.

  2. definitely the black hair tie. absolutely. and the phone. i have more blanket-type habits than i do "blankets". like when i'm really concentrating on a project at work, a co-worker recently pointed out to me that I put my hair under my nose a-la mustache style. weird, but true. but hey - at least i'm not the girl wearing the snuggie...

  5. lip balm and gum ... both must be within arm's reach at all times!

  6. I'm with Michelle - I always have to have chapstick on me! Hilarious, that my bf is the SAME WAY. So, you know, if I forget mine, he has his, and vice versa.

For what it's worth (on actual blankets, and not the metaphor), my mom knit me a "magic blanket" just like one I had when I was a kid for my 30th birthday. I have to sleep with it. Every. Night.

And I don't even like my mother.

  7. I ditto you on the hair tie on the wrist. I always have lip gloss close by as well.

  8. My must-haves include bottle of water, lip balm and hair ties. My wedding ring SHOULD be on that list, but I can't tell you how many times I've left it at home and not noticed for HOURS. Whoops

  9. I'm definitely with you on the Blackberry. I also have three particular pieces of jewelry that I *have* to be wearing: my watch, my necklace, and my ring. I can wear more, but those three have to be there.

  10. It use to be my hair band that I had around my wrist but then I cut my hair real short and didn't need it anymore.

I don't think I have a constant "blanket." Keeps changing. However I can't seem to get enough of my iPhone even though it was purchased almost a year ago.

  11. Hairband on the left wrist. Chapstick, normally Burt's Bees. My iPhone, but I'm learning to deal without it occasionally. And it doesn't have any blinking lights. When I had my Blackberry, it was ridiculous. You cannot let the little light blink. CANNOT.

  15. I have an actual blanket I sleep with every night. But metaphorical blankets are my watch and ring and also hate to be without chapstick.

  16. My blanket IS an actual blanket. I can't sit around on the couch or on my bed without one covering me. My uncle actually used to call me Linus!

  20. Remember you had your blanket when you were little too. I had to keep sewing it so it wouldn't fall apart. The hair band on your wrist all and the constant checking of your Blackberry.....what can I say...not a fan of either. XO

  21. As long as I have my iPhone, a few pens and some index cards, I'm good to go.

Oh, and like fifteen lighters, but that's only because I tend to hide them about my person and my purse without noticing.

  22. My iPhone and some kind of lipgloss. I'm always slathering it on, I hope it's not in a bad way, but I love smooth lips.

  23. I cannot have my red light blinking either -- it's a disorder (that hopefully will be broken with the purchase of an iphone this week omg cross your fingers) Also peter is not lying about his hair. It's ridiculous. We had an entire conversation about it, which was completely unnecessary.

  27. My penis.

    I take that thing EVERYWHERE.

  28. i have worn a black hair tie on my left wrist since about the 9th grade. i can still hear my father warning me that it is going to cut off my circulation and my hand was going to fall of.

and i carry my pink camelbak water bottle with me EVERYWHERE.

  29. I always feel out of sorts if I don't have my watch and a pair of earrings on. It will bother me the entire day.

I actually have two cell phones -- iphone and my work Treo. Have to have those on me at all times.

  30. Admittedly, a security blanket has been my wedding band/engagement ring - I have nightmares that I somehow lose them. . .so, I will check them on my finger from time to time. They also come in handy to flash when random guys need to know that I'm no longer on the market ;)

    xo,
    Kelly

ps - Are you going to the GCP party tonight? Let us know so we can look for your lovely little self*

  31. i completely agree on the hairband. i HATE when i want to put my hair up and don't have a band.

i also need my rings. i've been wearing a ring my mom bought me for over 10 years now, and have added others since then. if i forget to put them back on after a shower, i feel stark naked the rest of the day!

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'm the same way with the hairties (two or three) on my wrist and the lip gloss in my pocket. Without them, I feel lost all day.

    ReplyDelete
  33. As I type this, there is a black hair tie tethered to my left wrist. I share all of your blankets and would like to add "Moisturizer" ChapStick, in the blue tube to the list. I cannot leave home without it.

    ReplyDelete
  34. A hairband is totally one of my blankets. I'd be so lost without one around my wrist each day. Another for me is my chapstick. I'll freak out if I realize I've left it somewhere. I need one in my pockets or purse at all times!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Oh yeah mine are lip balm, iPod and Blackberry or cell phone. I cannot function without any of those.
