a motive for being a cleveland sports fan?

Thursday, November 12, 2009

a guy friend of mine recently had the balls to try to tell me that i don't really care about cleveland sports.

WHAT?!?!

that the only reason that i (and other girls like me) even pay attention to sports is because drinking is involved.

THE HORROR!

that it's just a social activity for me, and i (and other girls like me) don't even care to watch the game cause all we are worried about are getting good seats.

ON NO YOU DIDN'T!

immediately i took offense to the accusation, because telling me that i don't truly care about cleveland sports is about as bad as telling me that i can never wear the color black again.

and that's bad.

but then i started thinking about what he said and while i still don't agree with him (obviously), i did suddenly realize that there is one convenient reason why being a cleveland sports fan is a benefit for a lady like me.

men.

you don't need to be a rocket scientist to know that 98% of men love sports.

men flock to games, bars, tailgates and their living room couches just to show their support for their teams of choice. they quote stats to each other, argue, debate and want to discuss the topic with just about anyone, even women.

so why i can't i be that woman?

heeeeeeeeey, fellas.

fact - i'm a serious lover of all things cleveland, specifically their sports teams, but let's call a spade a spade here, the knowledge that an abundance of men are always around when sports are involved doesn't exactly hurt - nor do the celebratory beers.

you can't keep this single girl away.

  1. If you keep showing up to games, despite how groin-grabbingly fucked the Browns are, that makes you a true fan in my books.

  2. Your football team is the Browns.

I'm assuming 'celebratory beers' there are few and far between.

  3. I'm guilty of just going to drink and not really care about the outcome when it comes to the browns.

however, I know my basketball and cheer for the cavs

  4. No man is worth putting yourself through a Browns game.

  5. Ironically, I scout the female population at sporting events myself. Of course I'm there for the game itself first and foremost, but I LOVE a girl who knows what the hell is going on on the field.

There is no more of a turn on than a beautiful girl in a Browns, Cavs or Indians jersey (especially Browns).

  6. I bet you all men say that to women (I've heard it before myself) because they can't seem to actually grasp the fact that SOME OF US WOMAN DO LIKE SPORTS.

    Sheesh

  8. I'm with you in that I truly care about my sports teams. And, that said, sometimes I get super frustrated with the girls who are there for...well...any other reason - and ask the stupid questions. C'mon - you're making the rest of us look bad!

  12. you definitely get points for knowing what you're talking about. nothing is worse than girls asking questions just to pretend to be interested.

  13. For me it depends on the sport. Football, yes I go for the drinks and the men. I'm just not a football fan and really don't know much about it.

But baseball I know. When it comes to baseball I almost become a guy with all my baseball knowledge.

But I’m also not going to pretend that one of my favorite parts of watching sports is all the bad words you get to say.

  14. let's be honest, it's all about king james. how can you be from cleveland and NOT love him? that would be a sin.

  19. I'm all about a woman that gives a darn about sports.

Some women are actually brazen enough to believe that men will give up sports to be with a woman. In most cases, that's like telling a woman "ok, pick your 3 favorite activities. You will pick one and never do it again".

    Cheers to you Ms. Plum!
