creepy folgers holiday commercial

you know the old school folgers coffee commercial that first aired in 1982 that plays every year during christmas about the son coming home early in the morning and his little toe headed sister runs down the stairs screaming "peter!" all excited to see him?

let me refresh your memory...

if you have never seen this commercial you have been living under a serious no pop culture rock.

well this year folgers has decided to update this classic commercial with a new "peter" and a new sister.

but something about this peter 2.0 isn't sitting right with me - watch below.

is it just me or does peter want to bang his little sister?

there are some serious googly eyes being thrown back and forth between the pair, and not in the oh i'm so happy to see you variety.

in the come f@ck me variety.

why is "sister" grown up in this version? and why is "peter" rocking the bedroom eyes, practically licking his lips at the 37 second mark?

creepy.

i'm mad they didn't leave well enough alone.

essentially this version is the psycho (1998) remake of holiday commercials - catastrophic -
they may as well have cast vince vaughn as peter.

that being said, peter, call me, i'd like to know if the best part of waking up really is folgers in your cup.

HAHA, this post was hilarious Alexa.

but folgers is right, right? sex sells.

Well they replaced Peter with a Steve-o clone.

You're right about the flirtatious stares...in fact I feel like I'm in West Virginia just watching that commercial.

Haha, couldn't agree more. "Bedroom eyes" indeed. Gotta love the "all the way from West Africa" line to prove that even if Peter is a creeper, he's a humanitarian.

OMG - I am so glad someone else finally came out and said it! Every time I see that commercial I feel uncomfortable! "You are my present" or whatever she says. Gross - that's your brother.

LOL

YES. A THOUSAND TIMES YES. That is 100% creeper from BOTH of them. Poor parents. Interrupting a "moment" between siblings. Gewwww.

How about two girls in your one cup, Peter? Huh? You pervert.

Ok, I'm sorry I went there. I can't help myself. I'm high on Christmas.

They're totally fucking as soon as the parents go to church.

The original is so sweet and innocent...what happened Folger's? So wrong!

Alexa and Page Seven, you both are hilarious!

I thought the exact same thing when I saw it. Good to know it wasn't just me. He does look like he wants to bang his own sister. EWW!

holy crap. And what's with the awkward silences after he brews the coffee.

yeah first thing I see this morning is a creepy folgers commerical!

haha my friend just asked me if I thought there was vibe in the box he gave her.

Hahaha, I see this commercial every morning and hate it. It is completely creepy.

Lemmonex said...

Who am I to judge if he wants to bang his sister?

It's funny to see you mention this. When I first saw the new one I thought... "Really? did you have to?"

Why did they feel they needed to remake that? Because it was a little dusty? Seeing that commercial is the only holiday tradition that some people have...

Remaking that commercial is like the Nicolas Cage remake of Wicker Man. What's the point?

Huh. It just reminded me of those super cheesy try to pull at your heart strings long distance commercials from back in the day.

Upon rewatching it, I am now more creeped out than just annoyed. But I'm still annoyed.

Does the "pop culture rock" sizzle like pop rocks?

Actually, I thought it was her boyfriend at first! Because what child rings the doorbell to their parent's house??? I just walk in or break into my parents house. No ringing the doorbell for me! And what sibling says "My gift is you"?!?

One of these days I might get a surprise though from my parents so maybe I should start ringing the doorbell. . .

I saw this last night while watching TV with my dad. He said "is it me or did he really miss his sister."

Nothing is hotter than drinking folgers with your brother.

Somehow, they managed to transfer the sexual tension between son and mom in the first ad to the brother and sister in the second.

I'm...craving an expresso.

ok, so technically i'd never seen EITHER of these commercials before (and yes! i did grow up under a pop culture rock. it's been rather crippling, later in life) but HOLY SHIT NO KIDDING. just bang it out already, you two. ew.

Looks likes SOMEONE'S been itching to leave the back door open for a little morning visitor.

The coffee better be ready when I get there!

HAHAHAHA my roommate told me she got all choked up during this commercial and i just HAD to watch it and now that I have, I actually agree with you! CREEEEEPY.

You nailed it, Alexa ... err, him ... err, nevermind.

Shellbell said...

i couldn't agree with you more! I honestly think that's why she refers to herself as "sister" at the beginning, because without that clarification you would really think they were a couple.

Liebchen said...

Before I read the rest of the post I was thinking "she's totally into him." I just feel like she's a little too old, and they're a little too related, to be saying things like "you're my present this year." But that's just me.

Yes, the casting was ALL WRONG for this commercial. Like, you should have totes been the sister.

Chelsea Talks Smack said...

ahahaha. Yes, he does want to bang his sister.

Katelin said...

okay so crazy. my best friend from the CLEVE (you ladies are on to something) just sent me the exact same thing saying how creepy the new commercial is compared to the original, and i couldn't agree more, haha.

Thanks for posting my "Peter Comes Home For Christmas" video on your blog. It seems like it's been around longer, but "Peeter" himself, Greg Wrangler, says it was actually made in 1986. You're welcome to watch it on its original page and read the viewer's comments and please leave some of your own.

Thanks alot. Merry Christmas!
