my mom has always had a thing with pajamas and making sure that myself and my sister were clothed properly for slumber time.
whenever we were sleeping over a friends house when we were younger my mom was all, "make sure you have something nice to sleep in! don't embarrass me!"
as if wearing mismatched pajamas would cause the fellow PTA moms to look down on her.
who knows, maybe they did.
well, this obsession with making sure my sister and i had nice pjs has continued through our adult lives.
a few years back i went on a family vacation with my dear friend teen (her parents, siblings, etc), and my mother, just as i expected, brought up the pajama situation.
"you can't just wear old t-shirts to sleep. you need pants alexa, or a night gown - something modest."
[random fact #72 about me, i HATE sleeping with pants/shorts on]
so right before i left for teen's family vacation my mom purchased me a new nightgown - but not a cute/sexy nightgown, i'm talking grandma style here.
funny thing is i still have the nightgown.
muffin actually calls it my mui mui because it's quite possibly the most unflattering article of clothing ever. but i like to wear it after i get out of the shower while i'm doing my hair/makeup and i'm in a situation (i.e. traveling) where it's not proper to walk around in my underwear.
it's a shame though to think that my mom actually believes i wear nice pajamas it to bed.
sorry ma, but i sleep naked 9 out of 10 nights and never ever wear pants.
it's like the ultimate passive aggressive move to my proper pajama upbringing.
so, what do you sleep in?

Depends on the weather.
ReplyDeleteIf it's winter time, my Browns or OU sweatshirt and pajama pants.
If it's summer, gym shorts and a t-shirt.
Always pants and a t-shirt. Could be official pajamas or unofficial crap out of my drawers. But, always something.
ReplyDeleteSleeping naked is where it's at. I consider my bed an article of clothing - so really I am wearing my entire bed to sleep - wearing clothes under that just seems silly if you think about it.
ReplyDeleteThat is one ugly night gown...
ReplyDeleteI sleep in a tank top unless freezing and alone then sweat pants & sweat shirt.
I sleep in nothing. *Maybe* underwear. Maybe.
ReplyDeleteBut now that I'm home for Christmas I feel the need to wear something. Just in case I need to get up in the middle of the night.
naked. the occasional underwear. but for the most part all nakie like. i move a lot, so it's nice to feel free of anything hindering.
ReplyDeletetypically underwear. Unless it's freezing cold out, I might throw a long sleeve shirt on but unless I'm not dying of a cold, i'm in underwear.
ReplyDeleteI usually wear PJ pants and a tshirt because this girl is always cold!
ReplyDeleteIn the summer though I wear an oversized tshirt.
Nightgowns always end up pulled up to you head when sleeping, so you might as well sleep naked.
ReplyDeleteLove the nightgown! :P
ReplyDeleteI sleep in comfy pants. Sometimes sweats... it's cold in my apartment girl!!!
your night gown brings all the boys to the yard.
ReplyDeleteUsually just a big tee is fine. But in winter usually a big tee and stolen pj pants from my ex or leggings.
ReplyDeleteleggings and a tshirt, usually. whatever i'm lounging around the house in pre-bed.
ReplyDeleteOMG. Srsly. I never, EVER wear pants to bed. I would strangle and die! My friends all know and accept this about me. But alas, I might freeze to death if I was nekked.
ReplyDeleteTypically I wear pj bottoms and a tshirt or a sweatshirt!
ReplyDeleteI tell guys I like I wear this mini hot lingerie.
ReplyDeleteTotal lie most of the times. Nothing is more comfortable to me than big shirt and pajama pants. Dead sexy. Haha.
It's too cold in our house to sleep naked. I'm always freezing but refuse to pay sky high heat bills so I'm usually in pj pants and a t-shirt or long sleeve.
ReplyDeleteMy mom is just like yours! She even gives me the same "Don't embarrass me with your ratty PJ's!" spiel.
ReplyDeleteEvery single Christmas she makes sure to give everyone on her list nice pajamas. Why are they so obsessed with them?!
i usually sleep in shorts and a tshirt or sometimes just a tshirt, depends on how cold or hot i get in the middle of the night, haha.
ReplyDeleteIf its cold or I'm at someone else's house I will wear sweats and a tshirt, but other than that, nada.
ReplyDeleteI'm guessing most of these answers will horrify your mother.
My mom was the same way about pajamas and sleepovers.
I kind of think it's adorable.
ReplyDeleteNot sure what that says about me...
Me?, naked. Stuff hanging and all.
ReplyDeleteNo pj's here, that's so 20th century.
so, what do you sleep in?
ReplyDeleteA near constant state of arousal.
Hahahahahaa, I love this story. I usually don't wear pants to bed, but I'm a fan of the big t-shirt!
ReplyDeleteOh memories of unflattering nightgowns. Because it's hot in my apartment, I sleep usually in just underwear and a T-shirt. Love it.
ReplyDeleteMy mom ALWAYS buys me pjs too, and would seriously love to buy me one of those nightgowns but knows I would probably murder her. It never fails I'll get something cute and matchy on christmas morning. So I have THAT to look forward to in a couple days.
ReplyDeleteIronically, I sleep naked most times, or in an old shirt.
The only time I wear clothes to bed is when I completely pass out, in which case - I may or may not be wearing my coat when I wake up (I usually at least have the decency to kick off my shoes). . .
ReplyDeletexo,
Kelly
I LOVE pajamas. Not nightgowns though.. lol. I like PJ pants and I wear a t-shirt from college or HS (because they're too big to wear for regular clothes) ...and they don't necessarily have to match. I just like comfort ... oh and I wear socks!
ReplyDeleteZilch. Nada. Zippo. I have an ugly flannel nightgown for when I'm sick and want to curl up on the couch. Otherwise, who the heck needs it?
