i'm watching you

you know how people always talk about finding their dream job?

fact: my dream job would to simply be famous.

but that's not the point of this post.

for awhile now i've had this other dream job that i'm itching to try out, and by try out i mean for only like two weeks.... so maybe it isn't so much a dream job as it's something i'm intrigued by.

living in a large apartment complex in the warehouse district for the last 4+ years as a resident i've become friends with the buildings concierges, and i've determined that i want to do their job.

perhaps it's the voyeur in me but i think it would be fascinating to work over nights watching residents come home.

think about it, you're the eyes and ears of the building - the power!

you'd know who gets packages, who has lots of guests, who's a jerk and never says hi to you, and who stumbles in at 2am 4 nights a week with multiple hook-ups.

you could even rate the hotness of said hook-ups based on the hotness of the resident and see if it correlates with the intoxication level.

yes, these are the things i think about on a normal basis.

you could feel sorry for the ugly awkward residents who come home alone night in and night out.

or maybe i should just become an anthropologist.

hmm.

nah, i think i'll stick to marketing shit.

so what's a random job you've always wanted to try out?

  1. I've always wanted to try out being a bartender. It seems fun and I like busy work. Although i would be the bartender drinking beer with the patrons.

  2. To teach at the gym full time, instead of teaching at the gym AND working a full time job. It would be heaven - teach in the morning, come home and relax, and maybe teach another class at night, maybe not. And get paid solely for working out!

  3. A model. I'm usually the one behind the camera, but I would love to be photographed, too.

  4. Margarita taster? Is that allowed?

  5. Grocery store check out girl to see what everyone gets and a flower delivery person because no one gets mad at those people!

  6. I went through a phase where I wanted to be a white water rafting guide in Tennessee in the summer...Um have you seen the hot hippie dudes that hang around those kinds of places...hello?!!

  8. I want to be the person who makes up the silly list programmes you get on the music channels - like "50 sexiest stars" or "Hottest Boybands" or that sort of thing. It would be awesome!

  9. that's a hell of a job.

and one I would like to own.

I'd like to be a stylist because I could get all the clothes I wanted.

  10. I've definitely thought about a job like that. I'm sure the guys at the front desk have judged me a time or two (or ten).

I've also always wanted to try out being a bartender, but (or because?) I think that would pull me way out of my comfort zone.

  11. As a kid, I wanted to be a vet. I still lose it when I see a puppy.

Now, I want to get my certification to teach cardio kickboxing. I basically just want a job where I can wear workout pants & a hoodie all day long!

  12. my uber-weird one is an auto mechanic. i think it would be AWESOME to be able to fix cars, and i keep nearly taking night classes to learn how.

my less weird one (uh, only due to it actually being possible - now that i think about it it's just as weird) is a pole instructor. now that i've graduated, i think it would be super fun to teach my way back through the levels!

  13. When I had a job, I would dream of being Pluto at Disneyworld - walk around and never have to talk or have people see your expressions which would clearly show I can't stand you. Plus the suit means no direct contact with people.

  14. I always want to be a life guard. Haha. Not happening since I bet life guards have to have strict diets to maintain their figures. Lifeguards I saw in Baywatch at least :p

  15. I would like to be a few things:

    1. Flag thrower (not a ref just the person the throws the penalty flag at football games)
    2. Mic Checker (not a roadie just the person that says "Check Check, Hello Cleveland)
    3. Cake decorator
    4. Defender driver (not really a job at all just really like Defenders and want to drive them)

  16. @MOB - mic checker talking like Gilbert Grape.

  17. Definitely a New York City doorman (doorwoman?). Or possibly a swim instructor for little kids because it has all my favorite things: kids blowing bubbles, sunshine, flip flops, the pool and sunscreen.

  18. hmmm i dunno you probably are riddled with lots of guilt too. Who gets gifts from people they shouldnt, who cheats on who when so and so is gone...i couldnt take it!

I think it would be fun to pet animals for a living. And get paid. I know I'm dreaming, but thats what this is about, right?

  19. I always thought it'd be fun to be a hairdresser or an interior designer.

P.S. I love that part of the reason you want to be a concierge is so you can judge how hot people's hookups are. LOL.

  20. I want to be a male butler living in Pittsburgh, PA that deals with a weird family.

  21. Love this. I've totally thought about it, too.

This is a bit more realistic, but I think my dream job is being a customer service representative via Twitter. Just answering & figuring out Twitter complaints all day!

  22. Marriage therapist. You would get some craaaaazy stories doing that.

  23. I always thought it would be cool to be a flight attendant because I'd get to travel to different places.

  24. I've always wanted to be a coffee barista. How cool would it be to say your job changes the lives of many. Seriously. How many people are absolute jerks before that first cup of coffee in the morning? Funny thing is, I don't even drink the stuff!

  25. I would love that job too. But, then again, my major was anthropology in college... so I had to do a good deal of 'watching.' Ha!

    ReplyDelete
  26. Private Investigator, even though I already kinda am.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I've always wanted to be an anthropologist whose job it is to excavate inside the pyramids in Egypt.

But I'd also settle for being a dog whisperer.

  28. ever since i was a dj in college i dreamed about doing it professionally. as long as i got to pick the music that would be awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I would like to be a gardener for a rich person. I could create really cool outdoor spaces for people to enjoy on their dollar.

I also would like to be a chef. I love to cook and create with ingredients. I have a knack for how ingredients can work together. I learned from my mother who lived in the country and didn't drive. You look in the cupboard and in the fridge and freezer and it just jumps into your head what to make.

Maybe I'll do one or both of these when I don't have to stay with my job I have had for 30 yrs. I feel a need to keep it because I make decent money, enjoy it most of the time, and my family is dependent on my income.
