when 29 becomes 30

Thursday, June 24, 2010

can we please talking about the fact that i'm turning 30 next friday?

//pause//

//deep breath//

THIRTY.

i was born july 2, 1980...

almost at a billy joel concert // almost an independence day baby // almost named blair

instead i was born...

at a traditional hospital // on july 2nd // named alexa harriet marinos

i grew up...

at st. haralambos // at central catholic high school // in canton, ohio

but became me...

at university of dayton // in cleveland

but instead of the cliche freak out about 30 i'm going to embrace it. i'm actually looking forward to it.

it's going to be a really good year, i can already tell.

but the question is... what should i do with my last week in my 20's?

go crazy? i.e. tequila shots for breakfast, random bathroom sex, 8 balls, wild nights out, drink whole milk instead of skim? all of the above?

the possibilities are endless.

so i'm pretty positive this upcoming weekend is going to usher me out of my 20's in style.

bring it.

  1. YAY!!!!! Then you can come play with us at Studio 30 +!!!!!!!!! http://www.studio-thirty-plus.socialgo.com/

And seriously, I know you won't believe me, but your 30s are SO much better than your 20s. You'll always look back at your 20s with that fondness like you look back at high school, but you'll LOVE your 30s.

    I PROMISE!!!!

  2. P.S. Do EVERYTHING your little heart desires. EVERYTHING. Go hog wild!!!!! Because the BAD part about being in your 30s is that hangovers DO get a LOT worse.....

  3. Oh man! I turn 30 this year too (but not for a few months). Seriously, do anything you want - maybe even splurge on something (I want one, just one pair of Manolos!). Then, on your b-day, drink your face off because you can ;)

  4. I gotta say, I don't know what the big deal is about turning 30. You'll still be your wonderful self. I promise. Just continue to have all sorts of fun!

  5. Ummmm, you have been doing "all of the above" for the past 3 years. I am pretty sure you and I accomplished 3 out of 5 of those things last week alone.

  6. Birthdays are awesome and I bet your thirties will be too.

I'm jealous that your birth year is such a nice even number. Mine's not, so I have to do math and stuff.

  8. Dude, 30 was like one of my favorite years to date. I was so happy to shed my 20s. I was an independent, successful, HAPPY 30 year old. It was awesome. And I'm pretty sure you'll figure out your own way to make this coming year all kinds of awesome!

  10. How fun! You will rock 30. You will be hotter now then EVER. I can feel it.

I feel sort of bad for Mike - his 30th birthday is this August...my due date.

Although, he's more scared of "getting old" then you are, so it's probably going to be a good distraction. He'll be 29...then BAM! Baby and no sleep and suddenly he's eased into his thirties. (His other plan is to just be the same age as me now. We're 4 years apart, so he's claiming to turn 26, just like I will in October. Ha. Silly kid.)

  11. I turned 30 last October and my last week of my twenties was spent . . . drinking.

Yep, it wasn't much different than the rest of my twenties, but it rocked because it was an extra special week!

So just make sure you party as much as possible and it will all be good! :)

  15. "What age would you be if you didn't know how old you was?"

(I've heard Satchel Paige said it but whoever said it it's worth repeating.)

Age is a number. You are a legend. Live the legend.

  22. Definitely bring the crazy for the last week of your 20s - the good, fun crazy, of course, not the breakdown crazy. But it sounds like you've got the right frame of mind. Can't wait to hear what you come up wiht. <3

  23. My grandma and I had a conversation about this when I turned 20 almost a decade ago (I'm right behind ya, turning 30 in the spring). We concluded that the 30's are MUCH better/happier then the 20's because by the time you're in your 30's you're more established in your career/relationships/finances/etc. and are still hot and fun without having to be so goshdarn insecure about everything.

    Happy early birthday!
