it's contest time friends!!
today i'm announcing a giveaway for two tickets to an event at one of cleveland's hottest and most acclaimed restaurants the greenhouse tavern.
you guys know how i love everything about this place and when chef jonathan sawyer emailed me this weekend to tell me about the Au Bon Climant Wine Dinner, extend an invitation for myself to attend AND offer a pair of tickets to a lucky reader i accepted faster than you could say Food & Wine best new chef.
the Au Bon Climant Wine Dinner, or ABC Dinner for short, is happening next thursday july 22nd at 7pm at the greenhouse tavern and involves a five course wine and dinner menu and tickets are $60 a person - unless you're lucky enough to win two here on the plum.
to enter: simply leave a comment on this post (with your contact information, if i don't already have a way to get a hold of you), telling me your current favorite type of wine and i'll announce the winner tuesday morning july 20th.
good luck and thank again to the greenhouse tavern for the opportunity!
Hey!
ReplyDeleteYou know what I love in the summer? Being outside. And you know what's awesome while being outside? Rose over ice. I know it breaks every assumed rule about wine and ice, but Rose is supposed to be super cold. It's like adult summertime alcoholic lemonade. I mean, in addition to the alcoholic lemonade I also drink.
So wine snobs can make fun of me as much as you want, but this is one French habit I fucking love.
ive always loved a good riesling, especially the loosen brothers. but ive found myself ordering a malbec the last few times at rr wine bar. red or white - either is fabulous on a patio on a CLE summer night.

Yay! I LOVE wine.
ReplyDeleteMy faves right now are sweet dessert wines and Rieslings. I'm in love with Toad Hollow's Risque. Yumsers.
Boone's. Farm.
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome.
Sounds like the prefect excuse for a little weekend getaway!
ReplyDeleteIt's hot and muggy- so I'm feeling a nice, crisp prosecco.
Shiraz or any dry red. Any time of the year. Oh, and I sit 4 feet from you so if I don't win I will throw stuff at you.
ReplyDeleteGo to Whole Foods and buy yourself a bottle of Opala Vinho Verde - it's in a pretty blue bottle with an even prettier label, and is the BEST WINE for summer. Not too sweet, but not too dry. It's my new obsession, there may or may not be a dozen or so empty bottles on top of my fridge... hehe
ReplyDeleteWhile I would not consider myself a wine connoisseur by any stretch, I do enjoy a glass now and again. And again. My favourite wine in the summer has to be Fetzer Gewurztraminer. Serve chilled on a patio for full enjoyment.
ReplyDeleteI'm feeling the Malbec just like Tabitha. It's dry without being too dry. It also makes my teeth look like purple Chiclets after one glass...that's a wine I can appreciate.
ReplyDeleteI heart Reisling. I know a lot of people say it's too sweet, but I can't get enough of sweet stuff! The sweeter the better.
ReplyDeleteOMG OMG OMG OMG I want to win so bad! Sauv Blanc is always my fav, but I've been loving tempranillo lately as well!! Big bucks, no whammies...
ReplyDeleteI love Reislings any time of the year! Especially from Debonne Winery :)
ReplyDeleteOn these hot, humid Cleveland summer days (which are far too elusive) I love me a Sancerre Sauvignon Blanc. Crisp, dry, light...I'd go so far as to say perky!
ReplyDeletemy fav is pinot noir in the summertime!! mmmmmm, my mouth is watering
ReplyDeleteA South Australian Grenache called "BITCH". Great bottle label and really great wine!! Fun to take to a girl's night :)
ReplyDeletelindsaystull@yahoo.com
Amarone - which I can seldom afford, but which is nectar of the gods!
ReplyDeleteMerlot. Like Cleveland, it's not something most people consider fancy, but no one can deny its goodness.
ReplyDeletegewurtztraminer is my absolute fave!
ReplyDeleteI used to drink a LOT of wine, now it's pretty limited. Pinot Grigio would probably be my favorite. Granted this may be a nice occasion to dive back in! @katatvandy
ReplyDeleteReislings right now, malbec rest of the year!!
ReplyDeleteawesome. i would LOVE to go! my favorite type of wine is the kind i drink after work {also known as anything, at this point}
ReplyDeletebut for real I'd probably say that i like to try local wines. all of them :)
and my email is rachelnsimpson at gmail dot com! :)
Just thought I would drop in and say hello! It's very rare that I find other bloggers from Cleveland. I live in Mentor and write a newlywed life, home decor, and mommy blog. Stop by and say hello!!!

Any sort of riesling!
ReplyDeletesame here... riesling or Pinot grigio
ReplyDeleteOoo...decisions, decisions. Love dry white wines with a crisp finish. My favorite cheap-o bottle right now is Cupcake. Half of the reason I buy it is because of the name, and I'm ok with that. Pick me!!!
ReplyDeleteExcellent!
ReplyDeleteI like reds!
Faves lately include Syrah/Shiraz and Chianti.
Summer always means white wine for me. This summer it has been either Pinot Grigio or Sauvignon Blanc. Yum!

For this crazy hot summer weather, I love a chilled glass of Moscato D'Asti. I hope to win the tix!

while i prefer reds - cabs or malbecs especially - there's nothing better in the summertime than sitting outside with a chilled glass of riesling/pinot grigio/sauvignon blanc
ReplyDeleteOhhhhhhh I love me some vino. This time of year, I'm into Pinot Grigio. Also heart Malbecs.
ReplyDeleteMarborough Sauvignon Blanc.

I like anything red. Pinot Noir is probably my favorite, but I've been drinking a lot of Malbec also this year. There are very few whites i enjoy at all.

I love a cold glass of pinot grigio in the summer!
ReplyDeleteThis is an awesome giveaway -- thanks for sharing! My favorite type of wine is any Malbec. Otherwise, I love the Coppola winery's Director's Cut Cinema - Cabernet Zinfandel wine.

ReplyDeleteCabernet is on the top of my list.
ReplyDeleteYou can contact me at josh.tucohlski@gmail.com!
a light, refreshing blanc or pinot grigio
ReplyDeleteIn the colder months I am a chianti girl at heart. In the summer I find myself going sweeter and white - maybe pinot grigio.
ReplyDeletejmb0923@gmail.com
One wine? One? Well I guess the broadest selection would be a reisling.
ReplyDeleteBut I LOVE the carlo rossi sangria, and breitenbachs roadhouse red mon ami winery concord, and wolf creek sweet lies, and blue, and maize valley strawberry wine..Perennial vineyards big pecker, basically every amish winery wine is on my fave list. Oh, and polka dot from the circle k, or relax both reislings.
Prosecco at summer brunches!
ReplyDeleteHuia Gewürztraminer. Its an amazing dessert wine from Marlborough New Zealand. I met the owners on a wine bike tour in 2006. So good!! Had it again in NYC but havent found it in Cleveland

pinot grigio - just like ramona

beringer's white zinfandel. always reminds me of summer 2007.

chateau st michelle reisling is the best!! :)
ReplyDeleteI prefer the dessert wines, and the sweeter the better! I LOVE that Ohio has ice wine. I always take it home to Texas when I go visit family and friends. Ice wine is my absolute favorite. I'd have to say a close 2nd to ice wine is Pink Catawba.
ReplyDeleteDuring the summer, any cold white would be perfect but what I really enjoy, since I'm still learning my wines, is when I pick just the right one for a party that makes all the guests happy. Especially those guests that know more about wine than I do.

For the summer I love Dashwood Sauvignon Blanc. It smells and tastes of passion fruit, and is deliciously clean and crisp. Perfect for a hot summer evening. Great value too, it's only about $10 a bottle!
ReplyDeletem.theobald@csuohio.edu
I have been all about riesling for quite a few years- it reminds me of summertime at La Dolce Vita in Little Italy.
ReplyDeleteHowever, I recently tried a plum wine at Bac and it was SO good. A little too syrupy to have a lot of, but very enjoyable.
I am digging the Layer Cake Shiraz as of late.
ReplyDeleteI absolutely ADORE the Pink Catawba, made by Ferrante Winery in Ashtabula. My boyfriend usually savors a dry red wine, but he actually shared a bottle of this incredibly sweet stuff with me last year for my birthday. It's ideal for summer time celebrations or quiet evenings in the Cleve.

Favorite wine is Cabernet Sauvignon. daver7819 at yahoo dot com
ReplyDeleteMy favorite summer wine is a sweet catawba from Maize Valley called Hanky Panky. Aside from the, um, inspirational name I love that the wine is locally produced in Hartville, OH. The only thing better than sipping Hanky Panky on my deck is sharing a bottle with friends at the winery's covered patio.
ReplyDelete- Abby Millsaps, AMillsaps@landaupr.com
For a long time I always ordered reds but lately I really enjoy a glass or bottle of chilled white. Nothing too sweet though, usually I like Pinot Grigio.
ReplyDeleteI love Late Harvest Rieslings. Yummy! My latest favorite is Chateau St. Michelle in Washington state.
ReplyDeletecarriep44@hotmail.com
I know its summer and I should be drinking chilled whites but I am in love with Temperanillos lately. I cant get enough of it!
ReplyDeleteI also am obsessed with Greenhouse Tavern (hint hint)

My favorite wine is that inexpensive bottle, bought on a whim that turns out to be utterly fabulous! (Seems Argentinian wines are fitting this bill lately)
ReplyDeleteApparently everyone else is discovering this with all the Malbec I see on here.
But yes, Malbec, Grenache...so many fun bottles to discover.
