company cleaner

Thursday, March 3, 2011

i have a confession to make.

i'm a company cleaner.

i.e. i only really, really clean my house from top to bottom if i have company coming over.

i came to this realization today as i was starring at the water splash marks on my bathroom mirror, could i wipe them off?

yes, very easily.

yet, i don't.

could i take a swiffer to the hardwood floors in my kitchen? or a vacuum to my bedroom floor?

yes, very easily.

yet, i don't because i'm watching american idol and writing this blog instead.

i promise you guys i'm not living in a pig sty by any means, but i'd probably fail the white glove across the mantle dust test like whoa right now.

for awhile there my house was consistently spotless because i was having people over every week or two forcing my home to be in tip top shape, but since my last shindig i have yet to do a good thorough cleaning.

apparently i need to throw a party in order to get my "company clean" on.

so, who's coming over?

i need motivation.

  1. Ha!! The only way I can get Jay to help clean is if we have people over. I tell him we should have people over every week for this reason alone all the time!
How about we have parties and alternate every other week? Then both our places will be cleaned (well, at least twice a month)? :)

  2. And that would be why we have a cleaning service come to our place. Because even when we do have company, I'd much rather focus on making some kick-ass food rather than vacuuming the dust bunnies off the floor.

  3. Haha! I love that you also use the term "company clean". Growing up it was one of my moms favorite phrases and Susie and I still use it today.

  4. I'm the same way. Because if it's just us, who cares if the laundry's out and things aren't completely put away?

  5. haha, Alexa, I love that you use that term. I have to second (my sister) Laura and say "company clean" was a term we knew well growing up. We'd run downstairs and exclaim to our mom, "our room's clean!" and she would say, "is it company clean" and we would sigh and say, "no" and march (stomp) back upstairs to reassess.

  6. I'm sorry, but there is another way to clean?

  7. I love to clean, its a great stress realiver and so much easier then exercising some days! My husband makes fun of me because I tend to reorganize our living room once a month... I think its my OCD!

  8. We're the same way. But we do tend to get to the "pig sty" level, especially with a dog! So we clean for company, and occasionally because one or both of us can't handle it anymore!

  9. Welcome to my apartment! Except I get annoyed b/c people will come over when I'm not there, and lovely husband wont clean anything, like, let's say, MY UNDERWEAR ON THE BATHROOM FLOOR.

Things we need tr work on. :)

  11. Doesn't everyone?! The way I figure it, I spend 45 hours a week at work, 50-something hours a week sleeping. That doesn't leave a whole lot of time and given a choice between doing something that I loathe (cleaning) and having fun, guess which one wins EVERY time?

  12. company definitely helps motivate matt and i to clean. i clean up the every day stuff regularly but full on cleans? yeah that requires company, haha.

  13. Oh my gosh, company is the only way I clean my apartment top to bottom. If you need motivation, I'm on my way

  14. We are apparently the same person because, uh, I have this same problem with motivation. And since we haven't had a party or folks over since NYE? Our house is a little sad...

  15. My company is fantastic they do a really good job and trustworthy , the cleaner found a $50 bill under the bed and didn't pinch it. However I am in Australia so I guess that doesn't help you..?

  18. Yeah, unfortunately, I don't even get that far - my mom turned me onto a company called Reality Source Cleaning who does a great job and they're cheap, I don't find the need to go much further - problem solved, price is justified. Sure, I still have to do laundry, dishes and garbage, etc.. but no dust in my house for at least a few days between their once a month visit. That'll work for me anyways. I put the link in the URL field to help spread the word, maybe I'll get a "card" stamped or a free window washing - fingers crossed!!
