over two years ago (man, i've been blogging for a long time), i posted a "prune of the week" discussing how so many actresses on television drank straight liquor neat and how unrealistic i thought it was.
well i can now say that my original hypothesis is complete BS because i have become a bourbon and grand marnier neat drinker - go figure.
so there's one theory out the window, and i suppose if i go through my archives i can find more than a few more to also through out the window.
but that's not the point of this post.
the point is that i've made another random observation about television actresses.
they like to wear robes.
if there's a bedtime scene, the mom is always sporting a robe.
if there's a sick kid puking in the toilet in the middle of the night, the person holding back the hair is wearing a robe.
if it's a tuesday at noon and the dude is drinking a 1/2 gallon of half and half in a grocery store, er, wait, wrong robe reference...
if it's the middle of the night and detective lennie brisco shows up knocking, the women always answers the door in her robe.
my question is this, blog readers, do women really wear robes on the regular?
like i recall my mom wearing one every now and again, and i have one randomly hanging in my bathroom that i got as a gift approximately fifteen years ago, but i never even wear it.
am i alone here? do all of my female peers wear robes and i'm the minority? inquiring minds want to know.
historically speaking though, i have a feeling that even if they don't, in approximately 2 years i'll be the one wearing a robe whether i like it or not.
I do in fact wear a robe, but only post shower. I never sport one around the house. That's what snuggies are for.
ReplyDeleteI do think it might be a kid thing, I never wore one until I had little ones running around and the neighbor kids started randomly ringing the doorbell at all hours of the day wanting to play! Maybe someday you will wear one :)
ReplyDeleteThe only time I wear a robe is when I'm traveling. Weird, but true. I keep a satin robe with my luggage.
ReplyDeleteNow that I have a kid, I still don't wear a robe. Then again, I wear pajama pants and t-shirts to bed - no need to have a robe to roam around the house.
I live in my robe in the mornings and after a shower. It's so warm and fluffy. I probably get that from my mom and grandmother who always wore robes in the mornings.
ReplyDeleteI never really wore one, maybe right out of the shower before I put on clothes...but now that I am working from home, I totally sport one for a bit. Like right now, hehehe. Mmm, so comfy and cozy. But never on top of clothes.
ReplyDeleteAlways wear one after showering, while I'm getting ready.
ReplyDeleteI definitely wear my big fluffy one on weekend mornings while I enjoy my coffee. Although it's a weekday, I'm wearing mine right now over my work clothes because I'm cold! I love my robe!
ReplyDeleteI wear a robe right after toweling off and before putting lotion on, and around the house over my pjs if it's cold. I actually have two robes: A short one and a full-length one.
ReplyDeleteI never wore one before kids. And now that I do I don't wear a robe but I have a long (knee-length) cardigan left over from 10 years ago that I wear kind of like a robe. I also am a sleep in a t-shirt girl - I can't wear nightgowns or sleep pants because I get tangled up. So it's not a robe, but yes I do wear a robe-like thing on the regular.
ReplyDeleteI wear a robe post-shower, pre-dressing while I'm doing my hair/make up/eating breakfast, etc. It goes back to the sorority house/dorm days when I had to wear something. But I don't wear it over my PJs or lounging clothes.
ReplyDeleteThis is sooo funny that you posted this. My friends and I were talking the other day about how in every movie/TV show these women all are wearing robes to answer their doors in the middle of the night. I am not sure about you guys but if someone knocks on my door in the middle of the night a robe is not the first thing I think to grab. Rather my phone, glasses, a bat....
ReplyDeleteI never wear a robe. My mom and sister, however, wear them all the time.
ReplyDeleteI was actually just contemplating purchasing a robe...
ReplyDeleteI'm with you...I have one, but only rarely use it...maybe when it's super super cold in my apartment. But isn't that what sweatshirts are for? Meh.
ReplyDeleteI wear a robe when I get up. It's because my bed attire is minimal because I get REALLY hot when I sleep. I actually have several different types of robes I wear...a winter one, a summer one, a travel one, etc.
ReplyDeleteYep. I am pro robe post shower. It saves me time (i wear a robe because im lazy: fact). Instead of putting back on pj's, and because i dont yet know what the days wardrobe will bring. So, hair and make up.. etc are all robed. Ha.
ReplyDeleteI bet you will think I'm foolish...but I wear MANY robes, depending on the season, occasion, time of day, etc.
ReplyDeleteI have my long super white fluffy Nordstrom robe for after the shower, a short print one for summer post shower.
I have multiple little kimono-like ones for when Im getting ready to go out. My favorite is the one my sister brought me back from China.
I even have a slew of vintagey cotton print ones for those summery evenings after the shower, pre bedtime.
So call me an old lady, but I LOVE my robes!
(My gram would be proud!)
i've got robes (yes plural, apparently people like to give me robes) but i don't wear them all that often, however when i do i thoroughly enjoy it. i mean they're warm! or the other ones are just silky and pretty and yes.
ReplyDeletei feel like i've said too much here. point being: i like robes, haha.
I rock a robe after I take a shower. Keeps me all warm and fuzzy in this bullshit weather.
ReplyDeleteEvery night after my shower I put on my robe... I hope that doesn't make me a grandma:)!
ReplyDeleteSnuggies are the new robes. Do you think they make special Harry Potter Snuggies for those muggles who wish they were wizards?
ReplyDeleteI own a robe or two, but VERY RARELY ever wear them. And they're not very sexy, so why bother?!
ReplyDeleteI just purchased a satin robe from anthropologie. I hated getting ready in a terry cloth mess so I decided to invest in something pretty.
ReplyDeletei own 3 big fluffy robes that i got as gifts and only i wear them maybe once or twice a year. My mom on the other hand wears her purple robe every morning while she has her coffee and gets ready.
ReplyDeleteCome to think of it... i'm pretty sure she's the one who gave me my robes... LOL
I remember my mom having robes - but I can't say that I ever saw her wearing one.
ReplyDeleteIts funny you say that you have one hanging in your bathroom that you never wear. I have the same deal. I have a robe hanging on my bathroom hook, and when it isn't there, things just seem so incomplete.
but yea, i never wear it.
I totally wear a robe because I'm married to a man who is always hot while I'm always freezing my ass off. If I lived alone? I'd have my thermostat cranked and wouldn't have any need for a robe.
ReplyDeleteWarm and cuddly fleece robes and zip fleece robes are great to keep you cuddly & cozy in winter months. Fleece is a very warm fabric made from a thick yarn that has a soft woolly covering.
