how often do you switch your towels?

Wednesday, October 12, 2011

In continuing with my polling style theme posts like: morning shower or evening shower, movies you will always turn on when you find them on TV, or life registry, I have another preference based question for you all.

How often do you switch your shower/bath towels?

Do you use a new set of towels after each shower? Do you use the same towels for a handful of days and then switch them? Do you use the same towel for months on end?

Personally, I use two towels per shower - one for my hair and one for my body - and I use the same two towels for about a week.

Is that gross?

The way I think of it is that my body is the cleanest it's going to be when I'm done showering so I dry off and hang the towels on a hook to dry for the next day.

Totally normal, right?

Or so I thought, till I got in a conversation recently and was basically looked at like I had two heads because of my towel changing habit.

So I'm taking it to the blog...

Tell me, how often do you change your shower/bath towels?

  1. Hahaha!! I'm with you. I use my towel for about a week and then change it out for a new one.
There's no way I'm washing loads and loads of towels every week. :)

  2. I use a robe for my bod and a towel for my hair. Throw them both in the wash once a week.

  3. I'm pretty sure I tried responding to this post. And I'm pretty sure Blogger ate my comment. Grrrr... Let's try this again.

I use one towel and change it out every two weeks. I know I should probably change it out every week, but I'm far too lazy for that. And don't give me the "but, you have a baby" excuse ... I was like this before we even had a kid.

  4. Same as you! One for the hair, one for the body and about once a week. Only difference is that I may or may not throw them on the floor and leave them there till the next day and reuse them from time to time.

  5. I use one towel for 1-2 weeks and then switch it out. I use the towel to dry my body and then wrap my hair...and yes it's a good thing I live alone.

  6. We replace all of our linens(bathroom towels, kitchen towels, sheets, etc) once a week.

  7. I'm with you. There's no way I'm doing that much laundry.

  8. I change my towels once a week too. I guess I thought that was totally normal because you're getting out of the shower, duh you're clean! Plus that was how my mom did it at home and I'm finding more and more that I've picked up her habits and am very much like her!

  9. I do the same thing, one towel for my hair, other one for my body and change it every week-ish or so. I loathe doing laundry and frankly, people who change towels every day? Don't they have anything better to do?

  10. I'm a once-a-weeker myself. When I was younger and did not my do my own laundry because I was living under someone else's roof, I used a new towel every single time. I'll take one towel a week if means living on my own, ifyaknowwhatImean.

  11. I'm totally with you, dude. Use it for about a week and then switch it out. I'm the only one using it, so who cares!

  12. I feel wash cloths (if you use one) need changed more often than every week for sure...daily. They clean those dirty private parts!! Not the same as the towels drying a clean body at all.

  13. if someone actually washes their towels after one use, i'm reporting them to the hotel water conservation association.

    i'm with you - every 7-10 days.

  14. Use one for 5-7 days and then throw it in the wash and switch out! Anything else is just a waste.

  15. I use my towels for a week, sometimes longer. I just use the smell test. When they start smelling mildewy or whatever, I switch them out.

Do people switch them out more often?! That seems like a huge hassle!

  16. when i was growing up, my mom taught us to use 1 towel per shower... in a family of 4! where every single family member was showering 1x/day by the time i went to college! how did we even OWN enough towels for that!??

now i use one and wash it about once every 2 weeks.

  17. Not gross. It's what I do too, Cleve. You are helping the environment without realizing it, I think. As long as you hang them up on the hook, they are getting aired out and perfectly acceptable to use the next day.

Despite what you may want to be, YOU ARE TOTALLY NORMAL! (At least with this.)

  19. Have ya'll not heard of staff infections or impetigo? Germs are growing daily on those towels.

  20. I'm the same as you 2 towels, they get washed every week or so. More often in the summer because they never seem to fully dry in humid weather. Washcloths get swapped out every 2-3 uses.

And I always laugh at people like the Anonymous comment before me - germs are EVERYWHERE and we have an immune system for a reason. And if you're getting impetigo from your bathtowels you have bigger issues.

  21. Ha! I have to laugh too... a staph infection from reusing your own towel?

My & my family are in the once a week club, but the baby does get a new washcloth for every bath, which is every other day. :)

  22. I use two towels for every shower... & change them whenever they start to smell! Gross? Probably.

  23. Oh, dear. I definitely use a new towel everytime I shower...and I find it seriously disgusting to do anything but. You really want to dry your hair/face/chest with the same towel that dried your legs and butt the day(s) before? When I didn't follow this rule (in college and the year or two after) I got some nasty skin infections (ringworm and some sort of rash that looked like bugbites all over my legs) as well as UTI's and yeast infections (sorry if TMI!). I haven't had an issue since starting to use new towels each time....just my opinion though.

  24. Sometimes I switch towels out every other day. And other times once a week. And I really have no reason for not being consistent. Also? The BF and I share towels during this time and I don't think it's gross at all.

  25. ew,, you people are gross. i switch it every time.
