Chain restaurants and Lido Lounge - who knew?!?

Tuesday, January 29, 2013

This past weekend was half low key and half OMG.

Friday was family fun time with CK and his little one, Saturday morning was spin class and laundry before Saturday night debauchery.

Today is Lzone's birthday and to help celebrate it Seanski, Nugget, Lzone and I headed out Saturday night not to our traditional weekend haunts in Cleveland's near west side but to locations we don't normally frequent - chain restaurants.

Dun. Dun. Duuuuuuuuuuuunnnnnnn!

Now, for the record, there are nothing wrong with chain restaurants. Hell, I worked at Don Pablo's for two years after college - I just choose to more frequently patron locally owned and operated Cleveland restaurants. It's very important to me.

It's also very important to me to have fun and explore new things, such as chain restaurants... ha ha.

Our night started out at Olive Garden in Parma for a round of cocktails and drooling over the salad and breadsticks. A trip to Parmatown Mall was next, with an ultimate feast at Red Lobster. Three words, cheddar bay biscuits - life changing. I've never stepped foot into a Red Lobster, nor tried these mysterious biscuits I've heard so much about but now that I have I may become a regular.

Dranks, biscuits and fun.

After dinner we headed to Chili's (one of my favorite chains back in my Canton days) for cocktails and touchscreen trivia before we attempted to head to the Sly Fox and a string of other bars on Lorain. Let's just say the Ozzy cover band (and associated crowd) at the fox wasn't our thing - but the perfect margarita at Applebee's in Fairview Park was.

We just were on your average iconic American chain restaurant bar crawl, guys!

Well we were until our second to last stop at the Lido Lounge - a "gentleman's club" on W117th St in Lakewood that has a reputation amongst our group of friends because EVERYONE knows what/where it is yet NO ONE has really gone. Well, now we have, and it was surprisingly nicer and more fun than we expected.

Our own #LOLcheckin at Lido Lounge + Chili's Klout Perks (thanks!) + a table buzzer with a QR code, a.k.a. my worst nightmare - at least the drink was good.

The epic night ended at my neighborhood favorite Tina's Nite Club with Ahmed and I doing a rousing karaoke of Meatloaf's I Would Do Anything For Love to bring the house down. I genuinely hope there isn't video out there...

Sunday CK and I did a double movie feature of Silver Linings Playbook and Zero Dark Thirty and dinner at Flying Fig in Ohio City, date night fun.

Lots of fun, laughs and good times - Happy Birthday, Zone!

And happy Tuesday to you - make it a good one.

blah blah blah

Friday, January 25, 2013

You know the old adage of "if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all?"

That's usually how I approach my blogging, Twitter and Facebook - I keep it upbeat, happy and generally rated PG. Luckily, because my life generally is.

Obviously though my life isn't all rainbows, unicorns and sunshine. If you thought it was, god bless you.

I'm stressed this week.

So many questions going through my head.

Am I on the right career path? Is my relationship on the the right track? How am I going to pay for all the events I have in 2013? I'm probably going to have to take out a loan to get my roof/windows fixed. My mom. My car keeps needing more money getting put into it. How am I not eating dairy, wheat and working out four times a week and my weight is still plateauing? Am I going to have to move out of the city of Cleveland proper? Why is this zit on my chin so big? Am I prepared for the future that could be my life? Is it what I want?

Stressed. And I'm being vague and very high level.

The positive side, which I always try to think on, is that I know everything happens for a reason and that everything is going to work out. It always does.

I just pray for the serenity to accept the things I cannot change - that's a famous prayer for a reason, guys.

Oh eff it, blame this entire post on my PMS hormones.

Happy Friday, kids.

Who knew a winter weekend in January could be so much fun...

Tuesday, January 22, 2013

First off, thanks for all the feedback on my lob or not to lob post - I think I'm going to do it, guys! And if I like it I may even post pics, if I hate it though you won't see a picture of me posted on here for two to three months.... ha.

Secondly, it's really flippin' cold out.

Finally, I had a great weekend with my awesome friends. Dining out all over Cleveland, dancing and spinning my butt off and laughing at all the hilariousness that is my group of friends.

Friday night I dined in Ohio City, at Flying Fig, with Lzone and Michelle as a pre-game to Allison's 30th birthday festivities. Our meal at Flying Fig was amazing, one of the best entrees I've had in ages (I had the duck) and while I'm always quick to recommend Flying Fig I need to make a point to head there more often - excellent, excellent food and great to catch up with Michelle.

After dinner we headed to Speakeasy to dance the night away for Allison's big birthday. And when I say dance the night away I'm not exaggerating - the DJ was awesomely on point and I barely left the dance floor all night. I finally had to say uncle once my feet started to tingle from my too high heels - shoulda worn flats.

Me, fishface, Seanski and Nugget + BFF's Erin and the birthday girl + Seanski and Allison + Mrs. Peltz dancing the night away + THE CAKE THAT GOT STOLEN! Yes, someone walked out with this whole cake once Speakeasy was open to the public - horrible and hilarious all at once.

Saturday I had a nice day of my first Psycle spin class (it was awesome), grocery shopping and dinner with my besties at Light Bistro in Ohio City. Poo Poo was in town from Chicago which is always a treat, love that girl, and my other dinner companions, MOB, Muffin and Beaver (KAMM).

Muffin and me + MOB, poo poo and Beaver at Light Bistro

Sunday the Saturday night dinner gang minus poo poo sub Ginenne brunched at my neighborhood favorite Latitude 41n before heading to the Boutique Bridal Bazaar at 78th Street Studios. The BBB was a great event, and I'd be lying if I wasn't secretly taking mental notes even if I'm not engaged. I'm a girl, I can't help it.

Post bridal show I met Alana and friends at XYZ the Tavern prior to picking up CK from the airport and heading home to enjoy the brisket I made Sunday morning that 8 hours later was slow cooker perfection. A Sweet Moses sundae may or may not have also been in the cards... a sundae on a Sunday is always a good decision in my book.

Happy Tuesday, kids.

to lob or not to lob

Friday, January 18, 2013

Guys, I can't stop thinking about cutting my hair.

With recent articles like this one from NYT talking about the hair cut of the moment being the 'Chop' and this one from xoJane talking about the 'Lob' I'm seriously itching to make a change.

I've always been hypersensitive about my hair, it's long(ish), it's dark(ish), it is also very thin - the only thin thing about me - NO FAIR.

Not like falling out thin, it's just not thick, luscious and Kardashian like.

When it gets too long I think it looks stringy, which according to my very supportive and thicker haired friends, it's all in my head. But bitch please, I know stringy long hair when I see it.

But then there is the argument, of a short hair cut making people's faces look rounder - something I don't need. But then there is the other argument that short hair appears fuller because the length isn't weight it down - something I would love.

This is a Lob (long bob) - can I pull this off?

So I'm torn should I Lob it or should I chop it? Should I just STFU and keep my hair long and brown as it has been literally my entire 32.5 years on this planet?

Life is hard.

I have a hair appointment in two weeks, I need to make up my mind!

Happy Friday, kids.

Hump Day Link Day

Wednesday, January 16, 2013

Congratulations to my dear friend and bride-to-be Alana for winning the pair of tickets to the Something White Bridal's Boutique Bridal Bazaar, sad you didn't win? Tickets are still available online and at the door this Sunday. See you there!

It's Wednesday, Hump Day as some folks call it, and everyone's gotta get over the hump so here's some link love for things that have been making me smile this week.

From BuzzFeed: The 26 Most Puzzling Pictures of Leonardo DiCaprio Ever Taken -- This post is exactly why I didn't find Leo attractive until about four years ago.

From Mashable: Bad Lip Reading from the NFL -- this could make non-Browns games more interesting, in other news we have a new stadium name, FirstEnergy Stadium, let's do this.

From Pretty Sandy Feet: Live Blogging the Golden Globes (the fourth) -- I adore Kaitlin, as much as I adore the animated .gifs in the post.

From YouTube: Zak Morris Sells Friendship Bracelets on Shark Tank -- You had me at Saved By The Bell.

From Jimmy Kimmel Live: Celebrities Read Mean Tweets #3 -- pretty self explanatory and hilarious, maybe I should start a series called "Bloggers Reading Mean Comments," endless opportunities there.

Happy Hump Day, kids!

Disney + babies + #seanskifunday

Tuesday, January 15, 2013

From Thursday to Sunday my long weekend was filled with a happy balance of live music (G Love concert at House of Blues), kid-friendly fun (Disney on Ice Rockin' Ever After at the Q), supporting my friends and mothers-to-be (baby showers) and celebrating one of my favorite people on the planet (#seanskifunday).

Guys, it really was pretty awesome.

CK, his little one and I got an awesome invite to take in a performance and meet and greet some of the figure skaters in the Disney on Ice Rockin' Ever After show now playing at the Q till Monday, January 21st. Great tickets still available so grab anyone who loves Disney in your life and check it out!

Saturday was baby shower Saturday where I (and Muffin) enjoyed not one, but TWO baby showers. First for our good friend Addison Montgomery and then for our good friend Jen. Also, spoiler alert everyone in that top left photo is pregnant!!

When my love Seanski turns 31 we don't just celebrate, we Sunday Fundaybrate - #seanskifunday style - starting with brunch at Soho Kitchen & Bar in Ohio City where a client ad from 2006 showed Seanski's modeling side. Who styled his bangs? I need to know immediately.

Post brunch #seanskifunday headed to Market Garden Brewery where friends were everywhere! I spy, Kelly, Jose, JoeG, Megan, Jenny, Kelly, Charity, Ben, Danielle, Wes, Tim, Becky, Jody and Reena. FUN!

I spy more ridiculously good looking friends + Dean playing with wood, his pet project of the day, the outdoor fireplace on the patio of Market Garden.

With a Sunday night capper viewing of the Golden Globes the weekend was perfectly concluded.

GOOD TIMES my friends, good times. Is it time for this weekend yet?!?

Happy Tuesday, kids.

#HollaDaysCLE + New Year's Eve fun

Tuesday, January 8, 2013

Over a week later and I'm still coming down from the 4th Annual New Year's Eve Eve Holla Days Festival of Awesomeness Party that Lzone and I threw at Mahall's 20 Lanes in Lakewood.

Each year we throw the #HollaDaysCLE party it gets better and better (here's '09, '10 and '11). This year that was in part thanks to my good friends at Mahall's, because if you can remember, we go way back, and they helped make our party that much more fun. If you haven't had a chance to get to Mahall's I highly recommend stopping by to enjoy Emily's specialty cocktails, checking out a show and eating some fried chicken and tacos - you won't regret it.

Now, onto the pictures....

Lzone, Seanski and I had a crafting session pre-HollaDays and to say it tuned out interesting would be an understatement. As Lzone kept saying, "They're New Year's babies!!!" -- mmmhmmm, sure, they're just creepy and hilarious to me.

Emily concocted some specialty drinks for #HollaDaysCLE, the LZone-3000 (for Lzone) and the Debutante (for me, Greek girls Holla!) + some of the spread of cheese, Greek dips, flavored popcorn and cocktail fixings.

Here's me and Lzone the #HollaDaysCLE hostesses with the mostesses.

StarfaceSnowinFace, Tami and Maura + MOB and Muffin + Shibani, Suzanne, Eamon and Nick + Jessica, Kayla and Gina + Alana and Kimi + Julie and Brian

The fabulous Zone family + Rossi squared + Glynis and Beaver + Ginenne, Fatty, Alex and Nina +  The hottest gays in Cleveland: PJ, Shane, Seanski and Nugget + Ryan, Shibani and Michelle

It was around here the wheels started to come off... Julie and Seanski dancing + Ginenne bowling +  Jeff and Deano + Ben and AJP + daaaaaaaaancing + me fixing my tights on stage of course

Thanks to everyone who came out, it's like we took over Mahall's music room, bar and both levels of lanes - maybe next year Lzone and I will hire a professional photographer so I don't miss anything. GREAT TIMES.

Now where the heck are we going to host the 5th annual #HollaDaysCLE?!?

On the actual New Year's Eve CK and I headed over to Andy and Ginenne's house in Lakewood for a holiday culmination party with great friends. We drank lots of bubbles and bourbon and enjoyed delicious food while midnight toasting and ringing in 2013 properly and I couldn't have been happier.

The ladies + the fellas + me, Ginenne and Andy poppin' confetti + Fireball Whiskey shot time, aka my new favorite shot

It's going to be a great year, I can feel it.

Happy Tuesday, kids.

My Christmas Vacation, part one

Thursday, January 3, 2013

A bit of blog-keeping. While I was away, Cleveland's a Plum turned five! Yes, you read that right, FIVE years old. My first post on the plum happened on January 1, 2008 - it simultaneously feels like yesterday and such a long time ago. I plan on reflecting on five years of blogging in a later post but now, it's vacation recap time.

And I'm back.

Two full weeks of holiday vacation fun took me from STL to Canton and back to CLE.

Two full weeks of holiday vacation also added about NINE pounds to my waistline. So much eating, drinking and merriment and not so much hitting of the gym. But that's ok, I enjoyed every single day of my time off because I spent it with the people that mean the most to me.

I have approximately 200 photos from my time away but I won't bore you with them all, instead a few snapshot of the good times that were had.

In STL there was a lot of fireside chats with CK's wonderful and generous family.

Christmas Eve was spent at my Mom's house in Canton with family galore! Grog even got World Peace, just like he asked.

On Christmas Day some of my close family on my Mom's side got together for a group shot for our church's, St. Haralambos, 100th Anniversary celebration.

A fun night out in Cleveland with good friends at Velvet Tango Room and Press Wine Bar in Tremont (pictured).

Now don't even get my started on my 4th Annual Holla Days Party and my New Years Eve festivities... that's for the next post.

I hope everyone enjoyed their time off as much as I did.

Happy Thursday, kids!
