Oy, we had a similar issue with a girl and her Twitter profile. She applied for our internship THROUGH Twitter and then we looked at her profile and didn't call her because it was inappropriate. I get he was trying to be funny, but it's not appropriate at all.

Hindsight is 20/20, of course, but I see a missed opportunity here. All things being equal, it would've been fun to bring him back for the second round only to pass out copies of his "about me" to everyone helping conduct the interview. That way, you could've seen the look on his face as he crapped his pants.

But then, so as to lead him on a bit, maybe you could've asked him a couple of half-serious questions like, "Well, can you give us a few examples of how you were 'awesome' in your last job?" or "Can you tell us about one time you did 'whatever you wanted to do without any regard for the repercussions' and explain what you learned from it? If anything."

But then, after all that, you could've told him he wouldn't make it to the next round of interviews because, of all things, he made a grammatical error. (Singular possessive "neighbor's" followed by plural "them.") Perhaps you could've even taken that opportunity to point out that, as a result, he doesn't really "know more than you."

Had any of these things actually happened, it would've been even better had you been able to get all THAT "on tape." Maybe tag him on Facebook, too.

what a freaking moron. i'm shocked that there are people defending him, honestly. if, in the course of doing a background / info check on a potential employee, you found an article he'd published in a print journal about how women were inferior, wouldn't you take THAT into consideration?? it's not the employer's job to deduce each candidate's particular brand of humor or sarcasm; it's the candidate's job to present themeslves in the most flattering way. just because it's on facebook doesn't mean it should get an automatic free pass (ESPECIALLY since we all know you can just set your fb page to private. ESPECIALLY A PR REP OMFG.)

I think I would have had interview with him just to ask him questions about some of those things he's written. Yanno, just for shits and giggles.

For example: have him interviewed only by women and ask things like, "Since you claim to be smarter than anyone in the whole world, please begin by explaining the Big Bang Theory, followed by writing an essay on how our environment here on earth has evolved since the Palaeozaic Era."
