I can't say anything that hasn't been said. But I will say...DO NOT TRY TO DO THIS AT HOME.

If I were you I would go straight for the wax. If you shave and then decide to try waxing, you'll have to let it grow out for about 3-4 weeks again. Also, don't be afraid to ask your waxing woman loads of questions, this is her job. She's not embarassed by it. :)

A full brazilian makes me feel like a 10-year-old, but I love a brazilian + "landing strip". I've also dated men who didn't like the brazilian and I'm fine with grooming myself in a way a boyfriend likes so long as it doesn't make me uncomfortable. A few things to know:

1) Pop a couple of ibuprofen (as others have suggested) in advance.

2) It gets easier if you go frequently (about every 4 weeks for me).

3) DO NOT go the week before your period (or, and perhaps this is obvious, while ON your period, that's just gross) because you're more sensitive and it really does hurt more.

4) Take the waxer's cue on whether you strip down completely or not. When in doubt, take off your pants and wait for her to tell you to take off your undies. Or flat out ask. They really, really, really have heard it all.

5) I've found one (granted I live in San Francisco and I don't know how rural you are) who uses a new stick every time she dips into the wax. The thought of someone else's coochie germs in the wax from a double-dipped stick totally grosses me out.

6) Don't expect to have sex within 2 days after your first wax. (So if you're going away for a romatic weekend or something, schedule your wax for a Tuesday).

And god bless the men who groom. I'm not into completely bare, but it's nice to know there are guys who understand that their beard trimmer has a secondary use.

I don't have the time or the money to wax, I've shaved & trimmed since I was in my late teens and as long as you do it every couple days you'll be good.

There are also some really funny - but helpful - how to/tip posts online for shaving without razor burn or all that stuff. You just have to google it from the safety of your own home = )

DO NOT TRY TO DO IT YOURSELF. I tried. It hurt so terribly. I couldn't even pull the first wax strip off. Omg. It's the worst.

If you're not too concerned and your husband isn't too concerned, why not just keep yourself a little trimmed? Maybe shave the bikini line and trim the rest of the hair just to keep it under control. There's not some unwritten law that women need to be bald down there.

I would say if you are interested in waxing, just go for the bikini first to see how you feel about it. And don't worry about what the woman waxing you will think. They do it day in and out, and see lots of pubes.
Also, I personally like to just keep things trim with a bikini trimmer, unless I am going to be in a bathing suit. (like a beard trimmer but in pretty colors and easy to find anonymously on Amazon)

Also, don't go to a beauty school that offers waxing cheap because it's a student doing it... but definitely have it done at least once, even if it's just a bikini wax (a Brazilian is actually not good, pubic hair is there to keep bacteria out!) but to just look...nice, I'd say try it at least once. Believe me, those waxers have seen plenty of va-jay-jays. They're desensitized. ;D

Buw, if it does, go to a dayspa and ask about a Brazillian. I've never had one, but I'm sure the waxers are experienced, and have done it so many times that they're well and truly over the whole weird, uncomfortable, self-concious side of it. :)

Ask for a Brazilian to get everything waxed off, and a Bikini wax for just the bathing suit line. And ask your husband what he would like to see down there. Does he like everything gone, or does he like a clean bikini line and the rest of it trimmed? Just ask him. Or do what you like.

My wife and I have both tried shaving/waxing. I like her to be trim or smooth but it's not a dealbreaker. She doesn't care so much about my follicular status -- I just tried the waxing as an exercise in empathy, right before a week-long vacation trip.

Holy crap. Those curlies did not want to leave their home. The lady said next time would be easier and the roots will be shallower.

Like many people said above me, do it for you, not for the hubby. I fhe doesn't care, why go through the hassle? On the other hand, if you're curious, try a shave at home first and see if that floats your boat before dropping a pretty penny on a pro wax job. Google is your friend for how-to guides!

If your man doesn't care, then I wouldn't worry much. My husband says no to the Brazilian ("it makes me feel like a pedophile"). I got a bikini wax at a spa for our honeymoon, and it wasn't painfully really at all. Since hubby doesn't care, I won't do it again. We both agree that neat and trim is fine, so I use his beard trimmer with the attachment (not attachment and it's...uh...too prickly). It works great. I don't recommend scissors near your bajingo...WAY too dangerous!
